The Word in Our Lives
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:14-17)
The discipline of regularly reading scripture is as important as prayer and the practice of Sabbath keeping. For the Christian attempting to follow The Way these three faith disciplines (scripture, prayer, and sabbath) teaches us, grounds us, and prepares us to be in the world.

FLC May Council Notes
Council met on May 17 and discussed the following matters:
Council needs to appoint two more people for the Nominating Committee.
Announced the start of the budgeting process for 2017, all committees and offices should have their 2017 budget and a narrative (what do the numbers represent) by the end of July.
Discussed the request from Lutheran World Relief to be a partner church in a project in Bihar, India. Joe Siebert, Paul Anderson and Pastor Berg will put together a proposal for the July council meeting. Approved a proposal from Building and Property Committee to change the Men's and Women's bathrooms at the bottom of the narthex stairs into gender neutral restrooms. Occupied locks and new signage will be installed this summer.

Money in the Change for Change

Hopelink Grocery Cart: food that substitutes for school lunch programs (Peanut butter, jelly, fruit cups, cracker & cheese packs, etc.)
Monthly Outreach: $750.00 will go to Camp Lutherwood.

Altar Guild member, Donna Hillard, has created an altar linen of embroidery and cutwork. Her artistic work is, perhaps, not seen by the worshiping congregation, but it serves as a beautiful setting for the communion ware on the altar. Thank you, Donna!

Dan Hendricks, using wood from our old pews, refurbished the former chancel lectern to hold the statue of Jesus. This statue was a part of the chancel furnishings in First Lutheran's former sanctuary. It is a copy of Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen's "Christ the Consoler," created for the Cathedral of Our Lady in Copenhagen. Thank you, Dan!

Thank you, First Lutheran Church quilters, members and friends. With February and April's Quilt-A-Thons we completed 84 quilts for LWR, our high school graduates and Eastside Baby Corner. Our May Lutheran World Relief shipment included 181 quilts, 120 personal care kits and soap. Donations of $756.60 were received towards the shipment costs of $776.50.

Fourth of July Rest Stop at First Lutheran
If you and your family will be attending the Bothell 4th of July Parade, please stop by the church if you need a break! The narthex and rest rooms will be open to the public from 10:30am to about 3pm. We'll also have ice water, lemonade and cookies on hand. This is a wonderful opportunity to show hospitality to our neighbors.
