About the Unconference
Support the IMLS
CAJM is ...
Jewish art and history museums, historic sites, historical and archival societies, Holocaust centers, synagogue museums, Jewish Community Center galleries, children's museums, and university galleries ... the professionals and volunteers who work in them ...  the children, adults, and families who visit them ...  the patrons who support them ...  the organization that keeps them vital.

SEE YOU SOON IN NYC
CAJM's 2016 annual conference is only days away, and we look forward to seeing many of you in New York City this weekend. This will be a great opportunity to visit with colleagues, compare experiences, learn from talented presenters, and to think deeply about stories: the ones we present to illuminate Jewish culture and history; the ones we use to describe our goals and purposes. If you haven't made arrangements yet, there's still time to  r eview the program and register.

HONORS FROM SLINGSHOT
We are delighted that, as in previous years, CAJM member museums are represented in the Slingshot Class of 2016, a designation given to organizations that, in the opinion of the jurors, are "driving the future of Jewish life and engagement by motivating new audiences to participate in their work and responding to the needs of individuals and communities - both within and beyond the Jewish community."  The Contemporary Jewish Museum was featured in the select group of 50, and Mayyim Hayyim Living Waters was honored in a supplement devoted to women and girls. Yasher koach to these two - and congratulations to some other deserving colleagues on the list: Art Kibbutz, Asylum Arts, Reboot, and Sixth and I Historic Synagogue.

A CONFERENCE WITH AN UNCONFERENCE
If you've been browsing through the conference program, you'll have noticed one new feature: the "Unconference." This segment will be devoted to audience-generated conversations and content, giving attendees an opportunity, on the conference's final day, to engage with colleagues on themes and lingering questions. Registrants are invited to propose a topic for an "Unconference" session until the deadline on Monday, March 21 at 2 p.m. All submissions must be submitted through this online form. There will be an in-person vote among the submissions on Monday at 4:30 p.m., and the facilitators of the selected topics will be notified that evening. "Unconference" sessions will commence at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22. (Please only submit a proposal if you will be available to facilitate a session.)

TAKE ACTION IN SUPPORT OF MUSEUM FUNDING
Periodically we remind members of the tools that the American Alliance of Museums provides to help organize your lobbying efforts. Museums Advocacy Day took place last month, but right now is the most critical time to encourage representatives in Congress to support funding to the IMLS Office of Museum Services. Here's a simple link to get you started.

WEST COAST JOB OPPORTUNITY
The Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles is seeking an Assistant Curator, who will assist in identifying, developing, and selecting exhibitions; managing traveling exhibitions; preparing budgets and exhibition grant proposals; researching and originating exhibition concepts and topics; and will collaborate on fundraising, programming and publicity. Applicants should be self-motivated, detail-oriented multi-taskers with superior research, writing, and communications skills. See full job description, qualifications, and instructions here.

CELEBRATING JEWISH ARTS
Our museums  celebrate Jewish arts all year round, but the American Guild of Judaic Art draws special attention to them in March. Find out more about the organization here , and visit their annual online exhibition . (Left, Nina Bonos' design for Seven Sacred Species windows.)

LET US PUT A SPOTLIGHT ON YOU
CAJM  offers resources for learning on our website and at our annual conference, models professional standards, provides  opportunities for information exchange, and works on behalf of Jewish museums and museums throughout North America,  like the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA, where permanent and visiting exhibits include the current  A Town Known as Auschwitz: The Life and Death of a Jewish Community (right, continuing through April 10th).
