Meet WHS Inventors in our New Makerspace!

You are invited to drop by the all-new WHS Makerspace to meet our founding class inventors! Could these students really have invented a way to practice ski jumps in your own backyard, a way to pick the best subway car, a path to a happier marriage, and a relaxing place to sit that follows you around? Come see these any many more inventions, and learn about the design process. Visitors, please be sure to obtain a visitor badge in the WHS main office prior to attending. We hope you can join us!

Pegasus 2016 to Debut New Programming!
June 27 - August 5
Preschool - Grade 6
Enrollment for the school district's summer enrichment program, Pegasus, will begin later this month, and brochures with new programming details will soon be mailed to all families. Started in 1994, Pegasus offers preschool, kindergarten, and school age programming (Preschool - Entering Grade Six). Dates for 2016 are June 27 - August 5, and there are two three-week sessions. Learn About Shen Yun!

Learn about the traditional Chinese music and dance of Shen Yun. A nonprofit group keeping the traditions alive with spectacular performances, Shen Yun travels the country. It comes to Boston soon. To learn more about it, a member of the group will present the significance of Shen Yun and why you should experience it yourself.

Dads/Kids Drop-In

Loker School Gym
Join us for our Saturday morning Wayland Dads/Kids free play drop-in in the Loker gym. We open the gym & ball room, layout the mats and let the kids play (ages usually toddlers to 2nd/3rdgraders). Dads have fresh coffee, bagels, a toaster over and great conversation. We are collecting hats, gloves and kids coats to bring to Cradles to Crayons.

Wayland Dads/Kids Giving Trip

Wayland Dads have a highly coveted slot for a group of Dads/Kids to volunteer at the inspirational Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory in Brighton. We will be working to sort, inspect, and package new and like-new donations in their warehouse workshop during our volunteer session. Kids have to be a minimum of 5 years old to participate. Wayland’s state representatives, Alice Peisch and Carmine Gentile, are the guests, on Wayland Weekly Buzz this week. Host Ken Isaacson spoke to the two about Wayland issues and state government, during their recent visit to Wayland Town Building. It airs Sundays and Tuesdays at 10am and 6pm on Wayland’s Public cable channel, then on-demand, anytime, at www.waycam.tv/buzz .

Prevent Age-Related Muscle Loss

Prevent Sarcopenia - Sarcopenia is the progressive loss of muscle driven by the aging process. The average adult loses 1% muscle per year starting at age 40. It is estimated that after age 70, muscle loss accelerates to 15% per decade, but there are steps you can take now to counter this process through diet and exercise. Jane Polley, MS, RD, LDN (registered and licensed dietitian) and Laila Vehvilainen, MS - Gerontology, MPH and Certified Fitness Instructor at the Longfellow Clubs will talk about the latest strategies and approaches to prevent Sarcopenia and maintain muscle as you grow older.

Raytheon Room
Burning, burying, recycling, pig farms, composting, single stream recycling, Freecycling, etc., are all approaches to getting rid of our unwanted stuff. Historical Society President Molly Faulkner and Stephen Kadlik of the DPW will present a program on getting rid of Wayland's refuse. They will share the history of trash in Wayland and learn how our town's residents and officials have dealt with residents' refuse through the years-from colonial Sudbury to the present. The program is presented by the Historical Society in the library's Raytheon Room.

Violence Prevention Conversation

How can men and boys be helped to own both their vulnerability and their strength? Curious Creatures

Claypit Hill Gym
Round up your curious kids and join the WCPA at the Claypit Hill School gym for this year's all new Curious Creatures program, a live hands-on animal show for all ages. New features have been added and you won't want to miss it! Get up close and personal with an alligator, snake, gecko, or bearded dragon! Stroke the soft fur of a chinchilla or pet a flying squirrel or a ferret! Tickets will be sold at the door: $5 each for members ($20 max per family) or $7 each for non-members ($25 max per family). Children under 1 are free. Refreshments will be available for purchase after the show. Please come out and support WCPA programming at what is sure to be the fundraising event of the year!
