St. Patrick, Pray for Us

Throughout our life, we need to pray to the Saints in Heaven as their powerful intercession will help us stand firm in our faith in the midst of temptation.  This week we look especially to the wisdom of St. Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland to keep us on the road of faith.

In our daily life we are surrounded by many challenges and struggles, many of which are beyond our control. We are beset with uncertainty, insecurity, impatience, and doubt. There are economic, professional, and personal difficulties all around us. We need courage, inspiration, and perseverance. We need the support and prayers of those around us. We need to call upon the aid of this holy man, St. Patrick, who is such a symbol of courage and steadfast faith in the midst of insurmountable odds.

Let this feast of St. Patrick be an opportunity for us to reflect on God's presence in our own lives, and to ask for the courage to faithfully fulfill our own vocations humbly and virtuously as St. Patrick did.

Atlanta Missionaries Embrace the Homeless
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you do for me.' ~Matthew 25:40

Spending time talking and listening to those who may have no one.

Last month the Atlanta RC Missionaries had the amazing opportunity to do homeless missions in inner city Atlanta. The mission took place at Hurt Park, a spot in Atlanta where about 300 homeless people congregate and live. We started out by simply going around and conversing with all of the homeless. Then, we got any prayer intentions they might have and handed out rosaries. It was beautiful to see the excitement and gratitude that this brought to their faces. Almost every single one of them had a profound relationship with Christ. After this we handed out hot coffee, food, and clothes to them. Once again, the incredible gratitude of these people became evident. We ended the day by talking with and playing sports with them. I think that most of us went there thinking we would help the homeless live better lives, but in the end, we helped them little compared to how much they helped us. They are truly a joyous people, proving the point that it is not how much you have, but how much you love that defines you.
