Reproductive rights had a great night!

Thank you very much for everything you did to make our primary election victories possible. Defeating the anti-choice movement at the ballot box is the most important step we can take to make certain access to reproductive health care is secure for every woman in Illinois.

COOK COUNTY

In the race for State's Attorney, Personal PAC gave its full support to pro-choice leader Kim Foxx and she scored a big victory. Foxx's commitment to securing reproductive rights, including access to abortion will be invaluable to our work going forward.

SENATE

All of our incumbent Senators were re-elected, including Senator Mike Hastings (Matteson) who was targeted by an anti-choice challenger who campaigned aggressively on wanting to make abortion illegal. Senator Van Pelt was also re-elected. In the open Senate seat created by the retirement of long time pro-choice leader Willie Delgado (Chicago), pro-choice Omar Aquino was successful. For the open seat in Elgin where pro-choice leader Mike Noland retired to run for Congress, pro-choice Cristina Castro won the race. Both Aquino and Castro are going to be wonderful new and young pro-choice leaders in the Illinois Senate after winning the general election.

HOUSE

Eight of our pro-choice incumbents faced serious challenges across the spectrum from pro-choice to anti-choice opponents and all eight were re-elected. These re-elected incumbents are Cynthia Soto (Chicago), Sonya Harper (Chicago), Chris Welch (Chicago), John D'Amico (Chicago), Christian Mitchell (Chicago), Thaddeus Jones (Chicago), Jaime Andrade (Chicago), Mike Madigan (Chicago).

In the most expensive and visible House race in Illinois history, incumbent Representative Ken Dunkin, who failed to return Personal PAC's Candidate Questionnaire and told an anti-choice organization he would vote "no" on SB 1564 to prevent religious refusal of reproductive health care, was soundly defeated.  Pro-choice Juliana Stratton won the race with a huge assist from Personal PAC.

In an open downstate House seat in Rock Island, pro-choice leader Mike Halpin bested three other candidates with significant help from Personal PAC. Halpin's win is a solid pro-choice pick-up in the House should he prevail in November.

In another open House seat created by the retirement of Edward Acevedo (Chicago) Personal PAC supported Alex Acevedo. Theresa Mah won the race and is 100% pro-choice. We look forward to working with Mah going forward to make sure she wins in November.

Very significantly, two candidates, Jac Charlier who was defeated by John D'Amico and Katelyn Hotle who was defeated by Mike Halpin, both ran as supporting Illinois' dangerous forced "parental notice of abortion" law. The defeat of Charlier and Hotle is a great step forward in repealing this horrible law!

STATEWIDE

The only non-federal statewide primary was a special election for Comptroller created by the death of Judy Baar Topinka. Pro-choice leader Susana Mendoza won the uncontested primary and will now face anti-choice appointed Comptroller Leslie Munger in the November general election.

We have an enormous task in front of us to make sure all of our pro-choice candidates win the November general election. We will work day and night to increase our pro-choice numbers in the Illinois General Assembly by attempting to add two to three more pro-choice Senators and four to five more pro-choice State Representatives. With your support and commitment, we can be successful!

Again, you have Personal PAC's deepest appreciation for your help.

Always in choice,
Terry Cosgrove
