Health Kits
Helping Those in Need

We are preparing Health Kits to send with Pastor Melody and Russ Evett to the 2016 Annual Conference in Roanoke, June 17-19.   Health kits are distributed by   UMCOR  to people displaced by natural disasters and human conflicts.  We are collecting monetary donations to purchase kit supplies in bulk.  If you would rather assemble a kit (or more!) on your own, a list of items and instructions can be found by  clicking here .  The cost of one kit is about $12.00, payable to Ghent UMC.  All kits and monetary donations are due by Mon., May 30. 
Graduation Sunday

Graduation Sunday for high school and all college graduates is on Sunday, June 5th.  If you or someone you know is graduating, please click here to let the church office know.
Church Fellowship

On Sun., June 5, the congregation will be going to lunch at YNot Italian at 1517 Colley Ave. in Ghent, dutch treat, after worship at 12:15 p.m.  Please RSVP to church office by clicking here so YNot knows how many to expect.  YNot is donating 10% of the proceeds to Ghent UMC!

Ghent UMC's arts partner group Outside the Lines Young Artists' Studio is having a student exhibition on the top floor of the church on Sunday, June 5, 4 to 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Vacation Bible School
Cave Quest

Bring your kids to Vacation Bible School and ground them in the rock-solid foundation of God's love, a love that takes us through life's dark times. This summer's VBS is Mon., Jul. 25, through Fri., Jul. 29, 9 a.m. to noon, snack provided.  We welcome preschool age children (ages 3 to 5 who are potty-trained) and elementary age children, from rising kindergartners through rising 5th graders.  The cost is free, however, donations are gratefully accepted.   To register on our new registration website click here.

All middle and high school youth of Ghent UMC are invited to join Beacon Youth for fellowship, service projects, and fun.   Beacon Youth is a gathering of youth from several United Methodist churches in Norfolk; currently meeting at Larchmont UMC.  For more information, please contact Kim Kurtz by clicking here

  • Sunday, May 29, 6:30-8, join us at Larchmont UMC to learn all about how Methodism works.  Did you know that the General Conference works a lot like the legislative part of our government?  Lori was part of the Virginia Delegation and got to participate in the processes that will make changes to our Book of Discipline in the upcoming year.
  • Sunday, June 5, 6-8, Youth Council will meet at Larchmont UMC to elect officers, plan for T-shirts, and plan for upcoming summer missions and events.

Book Sale

Thank you to our many volunteers who helped to make our outreach during the Spring Stockley Gardens Arts Festival a success!  A special thanks goes to Steve Vegh for spearheading our efforts.   We raised $250 to benefit this summer's Vacation Bible School, as well as $50 for Wesley Community Service Center.

20th Annual GUMP Art Show
Thank you!

A special thank you to everyone who participated in our Art Show and Auction.  Our GUMP kids displayed their beautiful artwork, and we had 40 GUMP students and siblings stay for dinner and fun!  A total of $5,520 was raised to benefit our GUMP programs.

Parking Lot Fundraiser

Thank you to our volunteers for helping to make our Parking Lot fundraiser a success during the Spring Stockley Gardens Arts Festival, despite the rain. $175 was raised to benefit our GUMP programs, $147 for this summer's Vacation Bible School, and $50 for Wesley Community Service Center.

Volunteer Opportunities
