Inspire Theater's Complete Works of William Shakespeare -  If you are looking for something different this weekend, consider visiting the Westland Center for the Arts.  The Inspire Theater will be performing their new show this weekend.  "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)" is a funny show, equipped with adult humor and a host of hysterical characters.  Tickets for this  show are available now  here  or you can get them at the studio located at 33455 Warren Road.  The shows are at 7:30 p.m. on  Friday, May 27  and  Saturday, May 28; and there is also a 3:00 p.m. matinee show on  Sunday, May 29 .

Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast - The Wayne Westland Firefighters Charity will be hosting a pancake breakfast on Sunday, May 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This event will take place at the Wayne Ford Civic League, located at 1661 N. Wayne Road.  The cost is $5 per person, but Veterans eat for free.

Veterans Memorial Day Parade - The Veteran's Association will be putting on a special parade to celebrate Memorial Day on Sunday, May 29.  The parade will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Wayne Ford Civic League, located at 1661 N. Wayne Rd and the route will continue all the way to the Veterans Memorial Garden located at the Westland Public Library at 6123 Central City Parkway.

City Offices Closed in Observance of Memorial Day - All City offices will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.  This includes the Westland Public Library and the 18th District Court.  Trash and recycling collection will also be delayed by one day due to the holiday.  Offices will re-open at regular business hours on Tuesday.

Westland Farmer's and Artisan Market Held Every Thursday -  The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the new, beautiful Farmer's Marketplace, located in Central City Park.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.

Wayne-Westland Relay for Life -  At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. The  funds you raise  truly make a difference in the fight against cancer just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year!  On Saturday, June 4  Relay For Life teams will camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at Central City Park.  The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. and go for 24 hours.  If you don't have a team and are interested in walking, everyone is welcome to walk for Mayor Wild's team, "Wild's Walkers."  Just meet at the track at 10:30 a.m. and receive your team shirt.

The City is served by two public school districts; Wayne-Westland Community Schools serving 12,000 youth was recently named one of the Best School in Michigan by WXYZ-TV and is the proud recipient of 14 Golden Apple and two Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.  Livonia Public Schools, educating nearly 15,000 students, is proud of their MEAP/MME scores that exceed state averages and the District has also earned Golden Apple and Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.


 

Westland's philosophy is that government should embrace good business principles.  Providing oversight over the City's operating budget of $60 million dollars, Westland is the only community in Wayne County with a 3-year balanced budget and an approximately 10 percent budget surplus.
