Gloria Dei Lutheran Church | May 27

Recap from this year's emphasis on Going Deeper.

We've really only just begun our journey, though we have made incredible headway in God's Word.

It's amazing that we've walked through six books of the Bible in such a short time.  God is good. But like the early church, we gather together for fellowship, worship, the Lord's Supper and to study God's Word, in order that we can see "the Lord adding to our number day by day those who are being saved."

All that we do as a congregation has as its focus the saving of souls for the Kingdom of God. As we look on the horizon towards "Going Wider" we also eagerly expect the Lord to do mighty things in our congregation.

Memorial Day Outreach

If you would like to contribute, simply do a "drive through" at Camp Dodge in Johnston on Memorial Day, May 30 from 5-9 a.m. and drop off donations to benefit veterans in Central Iowa.

Operation Barnabas is an outreach initiative of the LCMS Ministry to the Armed Forces. Operation Barnabas of Des Moines (OBDM) is dedicated to providing support to military members, veterans, and their families in the greater Des Moines metro area. OBDM is sponsoring a supply drive for veterans on Memorial Day,  to provide items needed by veterans in VA residential and day programs and those needing shelter.

It is going to be a Son-filled summer!

In order to help serve our children during the summer, we do need your help for an hour or more. Leader materials will be e-mailed to you a week prior to your class and all other materials placed in the Resource Room. Your room will also be set up. Please check your schedule and sign up!  If leaders are not secured for a weekend, Grace Place will be cancelled that day.

E-mail DeAnn or sign up at the children's sign-in computer.

Backyard Clubs
Families, host a backyard club or two this summer!  You choose the date and invite friends, Children's Ministry will provide the supplies and a few staff!  What is a Backyard Club? It's like an hour of VBS in  your backyard (all outside!) Find a day or two and e-mail DeAnn McCue.

We are throwing down the gauntlet to read the New Testament this summer. All that is required is to read an average of three chapters a day starting June 1 and ending August 29.  That is right, 3 a day for 90 days.

To help get started, we have handouts in the Narthex and FLC outlining the plan.

We need 28 more donors! Donate blood in honor of Stephanie and Alexander Martinez. Stephanie Martinez, a wife and mother from Des Moines, suffered a life-threatening complication when she was pregnant with her son and needed 19 pints of blood. Today, she and her son, Alexander, are thriving along with her husband and two older children. Stephanie hopes to inspire as many people as possible to donate blood. Your donation matters!

Financial Peace University
Starts Tuesday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m
Financial Peace University (FPU) is a nine-week class that teaches how God wants us to handle money. FPU presents biblical approaches on how to get rid of debt, manage your money and spend and save wisely.

Why you should sign up for FPU:
*    The cost of FPU is $93. The time spent in class is about 15 hours. The average family pays off  $5,300 in debt and saves $2,700 during the first 90 days. In other words, investing about $100 and 15 hours can increase your net worth by about $8,000 in only 90 days!
*    Cheap date night. Dave Ramsey presents the financial concepts in a light and entertaining manner that "non-accountants" can understand and incorporate into their lives to succeed financially.
GDLC provides childcare during the class.

Who should sign up for FPU:
*    FPU is designed for everyone.  Single or married.  Millennial, Gen X, Baby Boomer, Greatest Generation - essentially, everyone can benefit from this class.
*    If you are an FPU alum, we hope that you would consider offering a partial or full scholarship to a family member, friend or neighbor.

If at least 10 Gloria Dei families sign up for the class, the instructors are personally committed to offering a scholarship to one family and will refund their class registration fee of $100.  The scholarship refund will be drawn from a hat during the final class.

Register today!
