CFPA-Sponsored Bills Need Your Support!      

The first committee dates for CFPA's sponsored bills are coming up fast, and your support is needed to move these important policies through the legislature!

The following bills will be heard in Assembly Human Services Committee on March 29:

AB 2054 (Thurmond): Fight Hunger with Summer EBT for Children 

AB 2099 (Stone): Safe Drinking Water for Low-Income Families

Your letters of support are needed by Monday, March 21 to ensure they are on record.

While California's economy rebounds, many people are still left behind. Nearly one in every five Californians lives in poverty. California's child poverty rate is the worst in the nation. Social safety net programs, including the federal nutrition programs, are necessary to equitably address the needs of low-income California families.

We also need letters of support for our School Breakfast budget request, which will be heard in the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education on May 3. Senate hearing date pending. doc

ENACT Day 2016: Policy Agenda and More!

Advocacy in action:   ENACT Day is March 30th!   CFPA is a proud co-sponsor of ENACT Nutrition and Physical Activity Advocacy Day. Whether you can attend in person or virtually, your participation will make this year our best yet!

New Parents Making Waves Toolkit Available at Water In Schools Website 

Water is critical to children's health and academic performance. The Parents Making Waves toolkit will walk parents through the steps toward ensuring their children have access to safe, accessible, and appealing drinking water at school, including:
  1. Building a team dedicated to improving water access
  2. Conducting an inventory of existing drinking water sources
  3. Testing drinking water safety
  4. Choosing and funding new water delivery methods
  5. Promoting and educating about water consumption
  6. Developing water-related language for school wellness policies
  7. Monitoring results and sharing findings
The toolkit is available in English and Spanish and can be downloaded for free on CFPA's Water in Schools Page: link .

2016 School Food Convening: Materials and Resources Now Available 

On February 10th, CFPA and the Healthy School Food Coalition of the Urban & Environmental Policy Institute (UEPI) at Occidental College hosted the School Food Convening which brought together a diverse group of organizations and individuals from around the greater Los Angeles area to learn about  school food programs, policy, and actions to improve school meals. The event was a great success with around 70 attendees from over 40 organizations.

CFPA  would like to thank The California Endowment for their generous support and all of this year's speakers and presenters for their contributions toward making the Convening such a success.
