My most favorite month of the year is May. My reason is that May signifies when school gets out, the days get hot and outdoor sports are bustling. My two favorite sports are softball and track. This year I have been lucky enough to be more involved in both sports.
I am helping with the girl's t-ball league twice a week. It is so much fun to see these little girls be so excited about playing, and to be with their friends. It has also been a pleasure to work with the wonderful volunteer coaches. I am seeing improvements each week but what I really hope happens is that these girls will play this sport into adulthood. It will give them self-confidence, opportunities to be a team player and good healthy exercise.
The first Saturday in May I helped at the YMCA's Association-wide youth track meet. It was held at the Mid-Prairie School and we had teams from Wellman, Washington and Riverside. It was so much fun to see the kids run and long jump!
On Saturday May 21, I then helped with the Kewash Trail Half Marathon & 5K. We had 99 runners and many of them were from out-of-town. Volunteers were from Kohl's and the Washington baseball team. They all did a super job! I am always glad that the YMCA hosts this event because I also get to work closely with my friends Shawn Loy, Michelle Driscoll and Teri Hartzler. Most importantly, I can't forget my friends on the gator! Thanks so much to everyone. It was another healthy event for Washington County !
