Family PASS to Host Program at
Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce
As a follow up to the January Point in Time count of homeless in Fairfax County, Family PASS has assembled a panel of people who have helped bring down the homeless count year-by-year since the Point in Time count began in 2005. The panel will address how individual agencies within the Fairfax-Falls Church Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness work together.
The panel will flow from how the homeless are identified by the County's Coordinated Services Planning, to relocation to temporary shelters, safe housing, and the critical individual case management that is essential to success for these families. This forum invites the business community to join is and provide their insights and problem solving skills to the discussion on ending homelessness.

Success - We're Losing a Client!
When Family PASS loses a client, it is cause for celebration. It means he or she has succeeded in becoming self-sufficient. Gary, his wife, and their son came to Family PASS two years ago. He had just lost his job due to layoffs, and with his wife's growing medical bills, they were about to lose their home. During the next two years, Gary continued to seek and obtain employment but needed to acquire additional skills to advance and earn a living wage in his field - IT.
Family PASS assisted by supporting Gary's education, worked with his wife to help her gain employment and worked with them to reduce their debt. This week Gary came into the office with the great news. Not only did he get the job he was looking for, he was now making enough money to pay for all their household expenses, including rent, without subsidization.

Family PASS welcomes new board member
The Board of Directors of Family PASS are pleased to welcome new board member, David Brunori of Vienna.
David has extensive experience in nonprofit governance and will be a valuable addition to the Board.
David is a journalist, author, educator, and lawyer who specializes in tax and government issues. He is the Deputy Publisher at Tax Analysts. In addition he serves as contributing editor to State Tax Notes magazine for which he writes the Politics of State Taxation, a weekly column focusing on state and local tax and budget politics.
He serves as a Research Professor at the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration at The George Washington University where he teaches courses in state and local public finance and fiscal federalism. He also teaches state and local tax law at the George Washington University Law School.
He has published numerous books and articles on state and local tax policy. He served as an appellate trial attorney with the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice and practiced with a Washington DC law firm.
David received his JD from the University of Pittsburgh and his MA in Political Science and BA in History from George Washington University.

Jessica Sweeney, MSW case manager, Family PASS
We are pleased to announce that Jessica Sweeney has joined Family PASS as a Case Manager as of May 16. Jessica has previous case management experience through her work with clients being considered for the Alternative Community Services program and additional experience in developing relationships with corporate, nonprofit and community partners. Jessica served as Program Coordinator at Volunteer Fairfax and Youth Programs Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity in Arlington. Jessica has her Masters in Social Work from Monmouth University, Long Branch, New Jersey.

Many thanks to volunteer Ann Marquis and her crew for putting on another successful Family PASS closet at St. Mark for Family PASS clients in April. And to Linda Karanikas for restocking the Family PASS client food pantry at St. Mark.
