Pleasantdale School District Friday Update
May 27, 2016
A Note from the Superintendent
Greetings Parents,

It has been an exciting and productive year in our schools.  This email marks the last Friday Packet of the school year, and I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made 2015-16 such an amazing year.  Over the course of my first year in Pleasantdale, I have learned about this wonderful community and experienced the potential that lies within our schools.  Below, I did my best to give some shout-outs to those that made this year great.
  • Teachers and Staff: This year, we took on a number of new improvement initiatives.  I have found our teachers to be a wonderful resource as we take on these tasks.  Pleasantdale teachers always have their students' best interests in mind, and this leads to amazing things.
  • Parents: Our parents are fiercely committed to our schools and to pushing us to be better.  The home/school partnership allows us to enhance the student experience by ensuring that the lessons we teach at school are reinforced at home.  Thank you, parents, for your continued support.
  • PTA: From planning cohesive community events to being a sounding board for new ideas, the PTA is an invaluable resource.  The executive board and the general membership help provide great learning opportunities for our kids.  Thank you, PTA, for your continued partnership.
  • Students: I can honestly say that we have some of the most inquisitive, thoughtful, and respectful students ever!  Our students come to school each day ready to learn, and they bring a light that inspires our staff to be better.  On a daily basis, our students remind us why we became educators.  Students, thank you for being so precocious and thirsty to learn.
  • Board of Education: The Board sets the direction of the district and provides leadership as we work to improve our schools. I am proud to be a part of the Governance Team in Pleasantdale and personally want to thank the Board for their leadership and guidance.

As we come to the end of the year, it is important that we pause to say thank you to those who have made possible this year's success.  While the above list is far from exhaustive, it is a good representation of those who have played a part in moving our schools from great to greater.

Have a great weekend,

Dave Palzet

A Message from Mr. Vandercar

Dear Pleasantdale Parents and Students,

On behalf of the entire staff, I would like to thank parents for their continuous support. Our school is a very special place because of the abundance of parents eager to help out in classrooms, hallways, library, computer lab, etc. Parental involvement is a major factor in the success of each child.

We wish all families a peaceful, healthy and rewarding summer. We can't wait to hear all about it.

The countdown is on - only 89 more days till the first day of school on Thursday, August 25, 2016!

Thank You Williams Family!

Kindergarteners are studying the specimens from the Nature Collection donated by the Williams Family. Unique specimens include insects, butterflies, eggs and fungi.

Garden Composting!

Many thanks to the Walsh family for donating and constructing a compost bin for the Pleasantdale Butterfly Garden. Another unique item to add to our units on plants, butterflies and insects.

Dear 4th Grade Kiddos,

Congratulations on another great year! You have worked hard, made friends and have learned a ton. We are so proud of the kids that you have grown into this year, and know for certain that great things are ahead for each of you in the future.

Your time at Pleasantdale Elementary has been earmarked with so many events and experiences. You have participated in countless assemblies, hundreds of lunches in the APR, and been on numerous field trips. From watching chicks hatch, releasing butterflies, swinging on swings and sliding down slides, you have done it all. You have learned to write your names, read great authors, add, subtract, multiply and divide like mathematicians, traveled around the country and have had electrifying experiences. You have drawn amazing pictures and sang like songbirds during inspiring concerts. And throughout all of these accomplishments, you have continued to grow and embrace change like true Super Heroes.

Remember to keep reaching for your goals. At times you may fall, but pick yourself up, dust yourself off and make change happen! Never forget where you have come from and please visit often!

Go out into the world...and soar like Eagles!!

A Message from the President

Can you believe that we are at the end of another school year? Summer break is so close; the weather has finally warmed up, flowers are blooming, and most of the children (and parents) are counting the days. This letter will be our last PTA newsletter until the Fall 2016 School Year, and we have many congratulations and THANKS to share!!!

Our first Congratulations is to our newest board member, Birgit Collins, Vice President. Birgit was inducted onto the PTA board at our PTA End of the Year Dinner held May 13th at Salerno's. At this casual event, we also said good-bye to Sima Patel, who has done a fabulous job serving on the PTA these past two years. We also recognized the retirements of Mr. Jim & Mrs. Swintek. It was a great night attended by Pleasantdale faculty and parents.

Our second Congratulations goes to all of our Eighth graders and their families. We wish you much success as your enter High School. A BIG thank you to Kim Gilman for being the chair of our 8th Grade committee and providing such great ideas, programs, and support to our 8th graders. We will miss you next year!!! The new 8th grade committee will be meeting soon, so any interested 7th grade parents please contact us if you are willing to help.
