to recognize 100 outstanding women annually for their professional accomplishments, community leadership, and mentoring.  Appointed by Governor
Larry Hogan to his cabinet in 2015, Beatty currently serves as Secretary for the Maryland Department of Disabilities.  The Department is the only cabinet level agency dedicated to those with disabilities in the nation. Secretary Beatty is the former Executive Director of The Arc Howard County, a private, non-profit organization providing advocacy and support services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

"On behalf of the Hogan-Rutherford administration, I would like to offer my congratulations to Secretary Beatty for this well-deserved recognition," stated Governor Hogan. "Secretary Beatty has advocated for individuals with disabilities and their families for more than 35 years and we are fortunate to have her knowledge and expertise working on behalf of Marylanders."

As Executive Director of The Arc Howard County, Beatty was responsible for residential, employment, and day support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Howard County.   In this capacity, she managed a $13 million budget and 300 employees. She was also responsible for advocacy efforts on behalf of individuals and their families on a county, state, and national level.   Prior to her work at The Arc, Beatty served in an executive-level capacity at Alternative Living, Inc., and Bello Machre, Inc., both dedicated to providing quality services to individuals with disabilities.

Beatty received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications and History from Towson University and a Master of Science degree in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University.   Over the past 20 years, she has received numerous awards for her work on behalf of individuals with disabilities including induction in the Howard County Women's Hall of Fame in 2012 and selection as one of the Daily Record's 2013 Maryland's Top 100 Women.   Beatty has a physical disability as a result of having polio as a child.   She resides in Howard County with her husband, Ed, and has a grown son who recently graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland.

"I am humbled by this recognition and honored to be included among such a diverse group of women doing incredible work in Maryland.  I am continually grateful to Governor Hogan for giving me the opportunity to serve Maryland citizens with disabilities in my current capacity," said Secretary Beatty. "I began my career as a direct support staff person and understand how important quality services are to people needing them.   I look forward to continuing my work with the department advocating for the rights of people with disabilities and working in partnership with stakeholders to ensure the full scope of community opportunity, access, and choice is available for those with disabilities in Maryland."
