Dear Our Lady of Fatima School Families:
Please join me in congratulating 8th Grader Brian Rooney for being awarded the 2016 St. Thomas Aquinas Award of Academic Excellence from the Diocese of Bridgeport Office of Education!  Brian received the medal and certificate from Bishop Caggiano at the annual "Breakfast of Champions" on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at The Catholic Center. I had the pleasure of attending this very special event with Brian and his parents Kevin and Kathy Rooney.

Each school in the Diocese of Bridgeport chooses one student from the school's highest grade- 5th, 8th, or 12th, to receive the award each year. At Our Lady of Fatima School we are blessed to have several 8th grade students this year who met the criteria. However, the principal and the middle school teachers had to choose one student and Brian Rooney was named by everyone. The St. Thomas Aquinas Award recipient is chosen for two reasons. First, he/she shows academic excellence in the respective schools, and second, he/she exemplifies the Gospel Values we are called to in our Catholic faith through service to others and Christ-like behavior.  Brian and all the recipients were photographed with Bishop Caggiano and will appear in the next month's Fairfield County Catholic. Congratulations once again Brian, we are all very proud of you!

Sincerely,
Martha Reitman
