Celebrating Skill Gains throughout Greater Boston

Over the past month, we have celebrated the achievements of over 45 people who successfully completed skill-building programs throughout the city - from right here at JVS to employer-based programs in the North End and in Dedham. Here are a few quotes from the ceremonies:
  • "I started this program unsure of what I would become. I'm now confident in my strengths and know I'm on the right path." Taisha, CNA Training Graduate
  • "I've gained independence and job skills. I feel confident to enter the work world." Alan, Transitions to Work Graduate
  • "I have a previous JVS graduate on my team and she is a key asset. She has the proper training and customer service skills." Roy Youn, Walgreens, Employer Partner speaker at Pharmacy Technician Training Graduation
  • "Thank you to JVS for helping employees learn on the job. We make an investment and we see the return." George Gougian, Executive Director at Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Center, ESOL Graduation
Elevating Skills, Jobs and Careers to New Heights

This month, JVS friends gathered at our signature event elevate - The JVS Gala. Together we raised over $375,000 to benefit JVS programs! We were proud to honor Deborah Goldberg and Michael Winter, for their commitment to social justice, empowerment and JVS.

In addition, Yoldie Feona shared her inspirational story of leaving Haiti four years ago to start over with her two daughters. Since connecting with JVS, Yoldie has completed training and become a nationally certified Pharmacy Technician, began her career in healthcare, and is working with her JVS Financial Coach, Gus, to plan for her dream of owning a home.

Boston Herald and The Boston Globe share JVS successes

Last month, the Boston Herald published a feature on our Bridges to College program. Students and teachers shared their experience with the program, and how it is creating access not only to college, but to in-demand career paths like Biotechnology. Hanan Neamah, a refugee from Iraq and current Bridges student was quoted, saying, "JVS helped me to rebuild my life. Without it, I don't think I would even have known what type of future to write."

The Boston Globe also featured a JVS success story in their recent article on career changers. Olga Mulugeta came to JVS for help finding a job upon arrival from Russia. She re-connected with JVS to build her skills and become a CNA, and most recently utilized our services to become a citizen!

In addition, both Hanan and Olga shared their stories as Client Ambassadors at the JVS Gala.
