You can "own" a piece of Heartland!
Enjoy honorary ownership with your Buy the Farm donation!

For the first time ever, we're offering you the chance to purchase an  honorary title  to a portion of the Heartland Farm to support our land and our mission.
Anyone who has visited Heartland knows there's something for everyone at the farm - whether you have two legs or four. For as little as $100, your donation will preserve Heartland's rolling hills, grassy pastures, cozy stalls, peaceful woods and cool and calming ponds. With your support, Heartland will be able to help thousands of animals and people for generations to come.
Take a few minutes to  watch the video above. We guarantee you will be inspired by the animals, children and volunteers who call Heartland home. Many thanks to Marisa Merkl at  Video Vérité Productions LLC for donating her time and resources to shooting and producing our video. Learn more...

Animal Hearts (Kids Edition) Update:

We just finished our sixth week of our Animal Hearts Youth Group, a weekly support program for kids who have experienced trauma and/or loss. Each week the kids come together to spend time exploring and finding quiet time in nature as well as bonding with each other and their favorite animals in our barn and pastures. They leave with excitement about what they've experienced and what the next week will bring. As with everyone who visits Heartland, they leave feeling better than when they came. Attendees learn business basics & animal care at Heartland's Spring Conference

Heartland sends a huge thank you to everyone who attended our first "Starting and Sustaining a Farm Animal Sanctuary" Conference this past Saturday. It was an absolutely perfect day at the farm, filled with helpful information and advice for those interested in starting their own farm animal sanctuary. And thank you to Ladonia Cafe for providing a delicious lunch!

Attendees learned business basics, animal care, and everything in between. We know there is a substantial need for more rescue resources in Wisconsin and the Midwest, so we wish these passionate folks the best of luck, and look forward to working with them in the future!

Interested in helping our 80+ acres stay beautiful?
Volunteer groundskeepers needed!

If you love working outdoors and have groundskeeping experience, we could use your help at the farm! From weeding to mowing, it takes a lot of work to keep Heartland in pristine shape for our animals and visitors!
To learn more about this volunteer opportunity, email our Shelter Director,  Alecia.

Animal Spotlight: Esme the Turkey Hen

Esme, along with Eddie (one of our handsome tom turkeys), came to Heartland in 2011 from the home of a 13-year-old girl who was no longer able to keep them. For the most part, Esme is kind and gentle, but she can get riled up about things she is passionate about (usually fresh grapes and berries)!
Like most turkeys, Esme is very curious and likes to learn about things by gently pecking at them, whether it be rings, buttons, zippers, or boots. She is always observing her surroundings.
You can usually find Esme hanging out with Eddie and her hen friend, Edwina, or begging the volunteers for grapes and lettuce at the produce table.
Support in our community - Heartland thanks you!

May Volunteer of the Month:
Carrie Calkins
Carrie has been volunteering with Heartland since 2013 and brings such a calming, peaceful energy to the barn. She lovingly treats our animal residents with aromatherapy and energy work, and has also served on our Gala Committee for the past two years. Our people and animals love and appreciate her dedication to Heartland. Learn more about Carrie...

Thank you, Cindy!
Cindy Buchko is a member of the Heartland Board of Directors and is General Counsel of Construction Business Group (CBG). As Heartland's Board attorney, Cindy helps Heartland in so many ways, including helping acquire donated services to renovate our facility. We are so fortunate to have Cindy (and all of her expertise!) on the Heartland team!
