Dear Neighbors,
Today is Election Day so remember to cast your ballot for the Illinois primary. Polling locations will be open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Anyone waiting in line at 7:00pm will be allowed to cast their ballot.
Today is the first time same-day registration is available in Chicago. You may register to vote and vote, but only at your home precinct. To register to vote on Election Day, you must have two forms of ID, including one with your current address. For more details, click here.

One special note - if you previously voted at the Sunrise Assisted Living Facility, 2710 N. Clark, your new polling place is the Second Church of Christ Science at Pine Grove and Wrightwood, 2700 N. Pine Grove.

Dozens of 43rd Ward residents met at St. James Lutheran Church last week for a special community CAPS meeting hosted by the Chicago Police Department's 18th District. The focus of the evening was to hear resident concerns and empower the community to aid police in keeping our neighborhoods safe.
Praising the large meeting turnout, Officer Christopher Schenk told attendees, "You all have valid, reliable information that goes a long way to decreasing crime and increasing the quality of life. Your regular routines make you our experts at various times of day to judge what is and is not normal around your homes."
Commander George Deveraux explained, "the stakeholders of a community are connected to each other and to nearby neighborhoods. The best deterrent is a nosy neighbor." When asked what to do if there is no immediate response from a 911 call, the commander replied, "Keep calling and request to speak to a supervisor."

Neighborhood Security Tips
- Display 'No Trespass' and 'We Call Police' signs (available free at the ward office)
- Keep porch and security lights on to help neighbors walking at night
- When calling 911, tell dispatchers a crime is in progress or a victim is in danger, or that you believe suspicious persons are on your street or alley
- Remain at the scene to sign a criminal complaint

Beware: Potential ComEd Scam
Be advised that my office has received reports about scammers posing as ComEd Representatives who call business owners claiming that their power is scheduled to be turned off for lack of payment or demanding a deposit for installation of the smart meter.
ComEd will never call customers asking for money. If you receive a suspicious phone call from someone claiming to be a ComEd employee, please ask for call back information, hang up, and report the call to 911.
Earth Hour 2016
Around the world lights will be turned off on Saturday, March 19th to build awareness of climate change. Chicago's Willis Tower will join the Eiffel Tower in Paris, New York's Empire State building, and other world landmarks in going dark for an hour on that date. Over 172 countries are expected to participate. In the 43d Ward, you can join in and show your commitment to the planet by turning off nonessential lights from 8:30 - 9:30 PM.

North Avenue Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation
Starting April 1st, CDOT will begin rehabilitating the North Avenue pedestrian bridge that connects Lincoln Park to North Avenue Beach over Lake Shore Drive. The bridge will be closed during construction, and there will be lane closures on Lake Shore Drive with two lanes of traffic in any direction remaining open during the project which is scheduled to wrap June 30th.
Chicago Residential Zone Parking Pass Changes
As of
March 1st, changes have been made to the City of Chicago Residential Zone Parking Program. Please note the following:
- Residents can now purchase up to three sheets of permits per 30 day period. Each sheet of 15 daily permits is $8.00.

Our office will
NO LONGER be able to create new resident records. If you do not have a resident record in the system, the Office of the City Clerk must create a record prior to our office being able to sell you permits. Email proof of your address and a photo ID to
[email protected]. This process can take up to 2-3 business days.
