Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Go and Make Disciples of All Nations
 (Mt 28:19)
With the celebration of the Ascension and Pentecost celebrated in the recent past, it is a good time for each one of us to ask ourselves the rather challenging question: how we are doing with the Great Commission Jesus gave us before he departed from this earth: "Go and make disciples of all nations"? (Mt 28:19)

Many of us, I know, grew up with an understanding that our role in the Church was basically to pray, pay, and obey, but this, of course, is not the biblical vision of discipleship and is not in keeping with our baptismal dignity.  Rather, the Holy Spirit sends us all out on mission by virtue of our baptism, and then strengthens us in a particular way to spread and defend the faith by the sacrament of Confirmation, just as the Apostles were strengthened by that first Confirmation, Pentecost.  I've been impressed by several in our parish who have come to me about their joys in bringing the good news to others who have turned away from their faith and who, in fact, originally gave me the idea for the series on evangelization I have been leading after the 8:30 a.m. Mass.

But we might ask: is this just a special task for the few, or is it for each one of us?  Are we really called to actually speak about our faith or just to be a good example?  Read more...
Corpus Christi Reflection
"...Give them some food yourselves." Luke 9:13

There are many levels on which we can read these words. In context the Twelve are telling Jesus to dismiss the crowd so that they can go to the surrounding villages and farms and find lodging and provisions. Jesus responds by saying, Give them some food yourselves. They respond as to how little is available in this setting. Jesus takes the five loaves and the two fish, looks to heaven, blesses and breaks them and gives them to the disciples to set before the crowd.

May 29 we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi - the Body and Blood of Christ.

There are times when Jesus tells us to give to others ourselves.

Sometimes it is a call to do something. Read more...

Feeling Drained? Practice Mindfulness!
Use Mindfulness to Defeat the Struggle and Increase Productivity

As the end of the school year approaches, the day to day stretch of classes and schoolwork can tend to become tedious. Teachers, parents, and students alike all struggle with the year-end tests and final projects before the summer appears. And as it approaches and the weather starts to become more welcoming, it gets harder to focus on homework and housework. But mindfulness can be used by everyone to defeat the struggle and to increase productivity.  Read more...
