District 20 students working together to solve problems and learn.
Igniting the power and potential of each student!

As our school year comes to a close, we hope you will agree that it was a successful one for your children and all of the children of District 20.  This year has been marked by many exciting advancements in District 20's mission to ignite the power and potential of each student.

This year, the district opened several new programs for special needs students, allowing them to attend school in their home district.  Elementary teachers implemented guided reading with Fountas and Pinell leading to great advancement in the reading levels of our students.  We saw our first Elementary Science Olympiad team compete and bring home several medals to Greenbrook and Waterbury Schools.  We started down our long journey toward implementation of a One to One technology program with a very successful Chromebook pilot program and look forward to expanding that program next year.  Next Generation Science Standards continued to be implemented at Spring Wood Middle School and in District 20 Kindergarten classrooms.  Work will continue in elementary grades next year.  The Board of Education convened a new strategic planning committee in February and adopted a new strategic plan that will guide District 20 for the next three years.

Our year held many smiles, a few tears, great learning, opportunities to work together solving problems and meeting challenges, new friendships, new opportunities, and another year of life experience for us all.  We are proud of our students for their may victories and defeats this year and we wish all a very happy and safe summer break.

We look forward to the start of our 2016-2017 school year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Connolly
Superintendent
