Fieldhouse Construction Update!
Fieldhouse Construction Update - Foundations & Feds!

The sights and sounds of construction are in the air at Dakota.   With 197 precast driven piles in the ground and, another 138 'cast in place' piles for the structural slab being poured this week, the 60,000 sq. ft. Fieldhouse is starting to take shape!

Concrete trucks are arriving on a regular basis while the foundation work continues. Delivery of the pre-engineered steel to the site has begun and we'll start seeing the actual steel building going up starting the first week in June.  So far, disruptions associated with this large construction project have been minimal and, Dakota CC remains grateful to everyone in the community for their patience.
A large project sign has been installed on Dakota Street, displaying the building rendering and details about the Fieldhouse.  The sign will give the community and passers-by a sense of what's happening on the campus and know what will be offered in the new Fieldhouse when opened in 2017.

With the construction now in full swing, the project remains on schedule for the building to be complete in late spring 2017, with completion of the site work (landscaping, paving, tree planting, etc.) being dependent on what the winter/spring of 2017 will serve up.  Planning is already underway to bring the Fieldhouse 'on line' for the busy 2017 fall sports season.

Exciting news was received by Dakota on the funding front this week.  The newly elected M.P. for Winnipeg South, Terry Duguid, has written the Federal Minster responsible for Infrastructure & Communities, urging Federal Government funding to support the Fieldhouse.  Dakota is very grateful to Mr. Duguid for his support of our community centre and project.  Everyone at Dakota is eagerly awaiting news of this long awaited support from the Federal Government.
4X4 YOUTH SUMMER HOCKEY LEAGUE

It's back!! Dakota CC is reigniting this fun Hockey league for kids 9-17 years old.  4x4 Youth summer hockey is a great way to build skills, make new friends, and get some exercise!  It's a fast paced and exciting league for every kid who likes to play hockey and have fun!

Divisions for the teams are as follows: Atom (9-10 yrs),
Peewee (11-12 yrs), Bantam (13-14 yrs),
and Midget (15-17 yrs).

Both male and female participants are always welcome! Though t eam entries are preferred,  individual entries are certainly welcome.  We recommend 8-10 players per team for optimal fun and effectiveness.

The league rules include fast paced action with a few stops - penalties all result in penalty shots!  The g ames are 3-17 minute time periods.  Though the game is fast paced with an emphasis on skill building, it is also low pressure and fun!

All games take place at the Jonathan Toews Sportsplex
at Dakota Community Centre.

Registration is online at dakotacc.com

"Recycled" Basketball Hoops Donated to Local Children

Village Canadien (VCC), a 231 unit non-profit housing co-operative, keeps score with Dakota CC's basketball hoops!

Dakota CC donated the basketball hoops, recycled from the outdoor rinks, for the use of community children at Village Canadien.

With our new Fieldhouse under construction at Dakota Community Centre,  and in our pursuit of a LEED Silver certification for the project, most of the items demolished during the construction process are being recycled in some way.

 Optimal Training Academy

Dakota Community Centre is home to the Optimal Training Academy with Terry Hadlow as its resident personal trainer. Through the Optimal Training Academy, Terry trains adults, youth, and those who are interested in Olympic weight lifting.   Terry works with sports teams as well as individuals for performance training.

Terry enjoys helping people to push past their comfort zone. He observes that when he helps them workout, their energy and determinism overflows into other areas of their life.

"I love to see the look on people's faces when they accomplished something they were never able to do!"  Says Terry.
