O God, your never-failing providence sets in order all things both in heaven and earth: Put away from us, we entreat you, all hurtful things, and give us those things which are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

From Bishop Ely:
Why I'm Wearing Orange on June 2nd

5/17/2016
wearorangeIn December, I spoke at an Interfaith Prayer Vigil in Burlington called, "A Moral Call: People of faith confronting the tragedy of gun violence." I asked the question, "how do we become our best self as a country in the midst of this current epidemic of gun violence?"
I believe the answer begins by setting in motion a "spiral of peace" in our hearts and in our homes, and it starts now as we actively pursue all efforts to be instruments of God's peace. It moves outward from there, circling family, neighbors, and our world community in compassion, education, awareness, and action, so that one day the vision offered by the prophet Isaiah when speaking about a restored Jerusalem might actually come to pass in our world; "Violence shall no more be heard in your land, wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise."
15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed in Chicago in 2013. Hadiya's friends honor her every year on her birthday (June 2) by wearing orange, the color hunters wear to keep themselves safe. Wear Orange was created to make it easier for people to show their support for common sense solutions that will save lives. If you believe there's more we can do to help end gun violence, I invite you to join me and my colleagues in Bishops United Against Gun Violence on June 2 and #WearOrange.
Other ways to get involved:
Members of the clergy are invited to consider joining the movement to wear an orange stole onSunday, June 5For more ideas visit the Wear Orange website.

CCSP ESpirit -- It's new!
A weekly spiritual reflection
Each week on Tuesday you receive the ENews, filled with announcements about all the various activities happening at the Cathedral and in the community. The message of the ENews is essentially, "Don't miss all the great things coming up!"

This email is different. We will send this out once a week on Friday. This is a short spiritual reflection. Sometimes it will be written by the clergy, staff or a parishioner at St. Paul's. Sometimes the reflection will come from other sources within the wider spiritual community.

The message of the ESpirit is "Slow down. Take time to read and ponder how God is at work in your life and in the world." We hope you will enjoy this new offering from your Cathedral.

Peace,
Jeanne+
Children's Art Show
Thanks to all the children and youth in our Church School classes and to their teachers for the lovely display of their artwork. Many classes have followed the same theme as our Adult Forum this year: Pilgrimage. Take time to look at the work and speak with our young artists.
Why is there a building permit in the window of  the Cathedral?
You will notice in the next few weeks that Rodd Roofing will be at the Cathedral to replace one of our roofs. This is the last roofing project that was planned during the Capital Campaign. It will be great to get this project completed. However, there will be some inconvenience involved if you are at the Cathedral during the day during the week. They need to get their equipment as close to the Cathedral as possible which means that if you park on the hill, please park only on the side closest to 3 Cathedral Square. Rodd will make every effort to leave enough room to drive by their equipment but do not park on the side closest to the Cathedral as you could possibly be blocked. It is always safe to park in the lower lot and walk up to the Cathedral but we realize that is not possible for some of our members. It is only a few weeks of inconvenience and it is a job that must be done.

Every night and over the weekend the equipment will be moved to the lower lot so there will be no problems for Sunday worship or any events in the evenings.

We just wanted you to be aware of what was happening. Thanks!

Roof construction is well underway, and so far, the weather has been cooperating!
