Our friends in Paris lost their lives, limbs and hope for a safe future. The Ebola crisis in West Africa claimed over 5,000 lives. Gays and lesbians in Uganda are continuing to be persecuted, even imprisoned, since that country's president signed into law the Anti-Homosexuality Act. And thousands of children are living in abject poverty around the world, across our border with Mexico, and in urban cities in the U.S.
