Making Room to Grow

Another Chapter year has come to a close. It is always a combination of relief, satisfaction and excitement when the year ends. I would like to thank the board for their service to the Chapter. We are stronger as a profession because of their service.

Service is in fact the theme of our newsletter in both our  Spotlight and in our Opinion sections. I thank the board members for their service and at the same time I invite you to consider joining our board.

With the opportunity for service comes the commitment to serve, true, but you should know that we need your help. Is there room in your world to serve our profession? Can you make room to do this for a year? The cost is about 30 hours of your time in a year. It will make a world of difference!

Finally, thank you to the members of the Manitoba Chapter, for your dedication to our profession - you have helped me to grow!

President

PS - please join us for our AGM on May 11th at 5:30 pm.

We are very please to have John Smith, former president of Great West Life, as our guest speaker!

This year we are having it at the Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Avenue. We would love to see you there!

SPOTLIGHT Spotlight
Service and Talking Nice

You may not be aware, but the CIC is standardizing its email services for all Chapters using a company called Constant Contact (www.constantcontact.com). This newsletter was prepared using this new service. Why I mention this is that when I was testing out the service and set up a trial account, I received great customer service.

And all they did was phone me...not email, phone. Are you thinking 'so what?'

LinkedIn: Be Heard!
Are you someone who writes letters to the editor? Do you want to participate in discussions and have your opinion heard?

Recently the CIC has opened up LinkedIn groups across Canada so members can discuss issues important to them and to the credit profession. You have a voice, and now you have a forum to be heard.

A Social Media Moment

Marketers will spend $8.3 billion on social media advertising in 2015.

CHAPTER REPORTS
Seminar
National offers webinars from time to time, and you can always check their  webinar schedule  for current and archived webinars.

Your Seminar Chair is Debbie Baines, CCP

Membership
2015 ended well in terms of our membership: we maintained our membership in CCPs and students, losing a net of four affiliate members. We have started a project to win those members back and hope to be back up to 108 members for FY 2015-16.

Please click  here to see the report.

Your Membership Chair is Kim Misko, CCP

Social
We are always looking for great ideas for getting together with Chapter members. If you have a thought why not share it? Drop me an email by clicking on my name!

Your Social Chair is Karla Cullen, CCP

National
The National report will be included in the next newsletter. Our National Director, Barb Harris, is recovering from surgery (and are happy to report that she is doing well). We wish her all the best in her recovery!

Financial
Our financial results for the end of the fiscal year are currently being audited. We ended the year well, with a surplus in excess of our budget. Join us at our AGM where a full financial report will be given.

We would like to thank our sponsors, Pinnacle, D&B, National Leasing & TransUnion for their generous sponsorship of our Chapter.

You can always see our past audited financial statements on our website under Board and Governance.

Your Treasurer is Peter Smith, CA, CCP

OPINION Opinion
Service Culture: Please?

Perhaps this falls into the category "what is wrong with people today", that is not my intent, but I do have a beef.

Best to explain with an example:

As part of a review of internal procedures, I asked a consultant to send me a list of penalties for violations of certain regulations. He send me an 8-page excerpt from the law (in 8-point font) and provides no direction on where I can find information on the one issue we had discussed.

What was the impact of his action?
