REMEMBERING AL-HAJJ MALIK EL-SHABAZZ

This past Thursday, May 19th, would have marked A l-Hajj  Malik El-Shabazz's 91st birthday, had he not been assassinated in 1965. He was among the voices of change during the civil rights movement of the 1960's and quotes such as this;  "We can never get civil rights in America until our human rights are first restored. We will never be recognized as citizens until we are first recognized as humans," continue to influence many people even after his death.

LETTERS FROM CAMP

The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center in Washington, DC, will be hosting an exhibit this Memorial Day weekend featuring, among others, a short film highlighting young Muslims reading excerpts from letters written by Japanese-Americans while residing in internment camps during WWII to camp survivors.
