Energy's official ADA time this year is
10:10 AM.
Please schedule your child's appointments so that he or she is back to school by 10:10 AM or leaves after 10:10 AM. We receive our funding based on attendance at this time. Funding allows us to provide more for your child!

Congratulations to our eleventh grade students who have been chosen for Genesys Works. Genesys Works is a program that enables inner-city high school students to break through barriers and discover through meaningful work experience that they can succeed as professionals in the corporate world. Our students will train with Genesys for eight weeks this summer in order to prepare them for their year long paid cooperative education program next school year. This is an incredible opportunity for our students and we are so proud of them! |
Congratualtions to Angel Gomez, Joseph Martinez, and Saige Cade for being selected to the Atlas Scholars program. Atlas Scholars is a three year program aimed to provide motivated students with mentorship, scholarship, and exposure to the energy and finance industry in a performance based environment. Students will work with Atlas Commodities for four weeks this summer and participate in year long mentorship until they enter college. Congratulations to Angel, Joseph, and Saige! |
This summer James Carr, Sharone Creer, Korbin Lawson, Roy Ramos, and Nathaniel White will participate in their second summer trip with GeoForce! Last summer they visited New Mexico and this summer will spend two weeks in Colorado. During their GeoForce experience students hike, camp, explore, and also participate in knowledge and skills based challenges against other student groups. We hope you all have a blast on your trip and can't wait to hear all about it when you return!

Congratulations to Energy Teachers of the Year Ms. Alexander and Mr. Heinen! Last Friday evening HISD celebrated our Teacher of the Year, Amanda Camp Alexander and our Energy Beginning Teacher of the Year, Trey Heinen at the district wide banquet. Teaching is definitely their super power! We believe we have the best teachers at Energy are so thankful for ALL our superhero teachers!

Last Wednesday evening our school celebrated the 2nd Annual Spring Expo! The Major League Genuises cohort prepared their Food Truck Wars project, which raised over $2,000 for the Houston Food Bank! Students picked a particular culture to represent, learned about food chemistry and developed a cookbook for their final project. We were blown away by the final product. Congratulations to Ms. Lockhart, Mr. Tate, Ms. Mathews, and Ms. Sinders for a job well done on a truly interdisciplinary project! Additional shout outs to Ms. Phillips students for all the incredible art work that was on display. Student projects demonstrated a thorough understanding of the design process. Thank you to our ninth grade teachers who presented their mythological creatures and vertical gardens!

Energy Institute Awards Night will be held Tuesday, May 24th at 6pm. The entire Energy community is invited to attend. Students receiving an award will receive a personalized invitation and parents will receive a call out inviting you to attend the event. We are excited to celebrate all the hardwork our students have demonstrated this school year!

This week we will wrap up finals with two finals Monday and Tuesday. Each day students will be dismissed at 12:10pm. Wednesday, students will have their last final exam, turn in their laptops, and then participate in the end of the year field day organized by the Energy Boosters PTO. Students will be dismissed at 3:30pm Wednesday, May 25th.

Final exam exemption forms are now available in the main office. The forms must be completed with teacher signatures and turned into their dean the day before the final exam the student would like to exempt. Students can choose to participate in AP class exemptions or two final exam exemptions. You cannot submit exemption forms for both. In order to exempt a final students must meet the following criteria:
- Has a final spring semester average in the class of 85 or above
- Three or fewer absences (excused and unexcused) in the specific class for the spring semester
- Does not have any level three referrals for the spring semester.
Ninth grade students are eligible to exempt one final. Tenth and eleventh grade students can exempt up to two finals. A copy of the final exam exemption form has been included
here for your convenience.
To exempt AP final exams, students must complete the AP exemption form with teacher signatures and turn into their dean the day before their scheduled exam. In order to qualify for AP exemption you must have a semester average of at least 90. You can download the AP exemption form

Wednesday, May 25th, following students final exam, we will have our school wide Laptop Collection.
During the laptop collection:
- Laptops, chargers, battery, carrying case, and shoulder strap will be inspected for accidental damage; they will be sent to summer repair and cleaning.
- Serial Numbers on Laptop, Charger, Battery, and carrying case will be compared to our database; this is part of our property management system.
- Students and parents will be invoiced for missing or lost equipment; this allows us to ensure that Energy Institute High School continues its extraordinary track record of being 100% Powered Up! Every student with their very own laptop!
Again, save the date to remind your child to bring all of their equipment for the laptop collection on, Wednesday, May 25th.
Lastly, please take the time to inspect your child's laptop, if you notice any damage, please have them report the damage to Mr. Cavazos in the Tech Spot so that we can send it off to repair as soon as possible. As always parents, thank you for your time and dedicated support.

Finally, we are excited to announce that we will have an end of the year field day on Wednesday, May 25th - the last day of school. The PTO is working hard to make this day memorable. We will have carnival games such as a rock climbing wall, bungee trampoline, obstacle courses, a radio station providing tunes, face painting, a dunking booth, and refreshments. You won't want to miss it! We are asking that each student contributes $3. There will be a table set up during lunch to collect money. If for some reason you feel that financially you cannot make this contribution, please email Edgar Contreras at
[email protected] and we will do what we can to support that need. All students are required to participate. Buses will depart at 3:30 on this day.

We are excited to announce that we will be offering Art I for original credit this summer. Art is required for graduation, but if you take it this summer you will have an extra spot in your schedule next year to take an elective of your choice!
Summer school registration will be May 31st from 9am-12pm. We have several different sessions that will begin June 1st, continue to STAAR retakes, and end July 13th.
More information about summer school and courses being offered will be available as soon as final grades have been calculated and we have STAAR results.

If you are participating in a DiscoverU Fantastic Learning Opportunity this summer, our campus DiscoverU coordinator Ms. Emily Sketch Haines will be on campus Wednesday to meet with you about summer communication, last minute trip details, and to answer any questions you may have about your trip. National Society of Black Engineers SEEK Camp:
Shell is sponsoring a NSBE SEEK Camp at Mading Elementary School for third through sixth grade students from June 6th - July 1st. The NMSE SEEK coordinators are offering an opportunity for high school students to participate as Jr. Mentors for the Houston Camp. Jr. Mentors must be at least 14, must complete medical screening, must be available for Mentor training (1 week), have computer/internet knowledge, enjoy working with elementary students in grades 3-5, and enjoy STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)! This is an excellent opportunity to volunteer this summer and get involved spreading STEM awareness to elementary school students. For more information or to apply for this program please click here!
