In this issue-

In this issue you'll find information about three other local governments that serve our community. You'll want to know how our fire department protects us and what they've done to lower your homeowner's property insurance.

We've provided links to some useful sites for the College of Lake County and the Warren-Newport Public Library.

And there's also a little more information about the Shanty's expansion plans, their recipe contest, and the answer to the riddle.

As always, send your cheers and jeers to me.

Our fire department-

How much do you know about our Newport Township Fire Protection District?

Did you know that it has grown from an all volunteer garage to a first-class fire department that responds to all 911 calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year?

Did you know it has full paramedic capability?

Did you know that it serves and protects 33 square miles of Newport Township and almost 2,000 structures?

Did you know that one of its goals is to reach your home within six minutes of an emergency call?

The District has created an information piece about its services and capabilities.  To know what they are, click HERE.  You might just save a life or some property.

Our library district-

The Warren-Newport Public Library District, founded by volunteers in 1973, serves a population of approximately 67,000 within a 55-square mile area that covers most of Warren and Newport townships.

It includes the municipalities of Wadsworth, Gurnee,  Park City, Wildwood, Grandwood Park, Old Mill Creek, and portions of Grayslake, Millburn, Lake Villa, Libertyville and Waukegan.

Here are some upcoming programs from one of its publications:

Wendy and DB Concert for Kids

We're hosting a special music concert for children on Saturday, March 12, at 10 a.m. This interactive show with Wendy and DB features fun songs and positive lyrics that will let imaginations soar! This dynamic duo was a winner of the 2015 Parents' Choice and NAPPA awards. All ages are welcome with an adult. Please register all who are attending online at wnpl.info or call 847-244-5150, "5."

Bingo in the Books Returns-

Our Bingo fundraising event drew quite a crowd last year! It returns this year on Friday, April 29. Tables of 8 for $150 or individual tickets for $20 go on sale February 26. You may register online at  www.wnpl.info , click 'donate'; or at the Check-Out desk inside the library. Funds raised from this event will go toward the library's future Tween Center designed to provide a unique space for children in grades 3-5. We greatly appreciate your support of this project.

Shanty expansion (Part II)-

The basic concept and floor plans have been sketched out and the project is now in the hands of the architects for detailed drawings and construction bidding.

In addition to our previous report, the new building will  have the only true wine cellar in the area with a 3,000 bottle capacity.

You know about the grand view of the wetlands vista, the new banquet spaces, and the expanded bar area.  Porky's dining room will also be expanded to 56 seats to the north in an advance celebration of its 30 years in business this summer.

The recipe contest remains open and this is your choice to have your entree featured at the Shanty. Details were provided in a prior issue of this newsletter and click HERE to see them.

And the answer to the riddle?  It's the Shanty's expansion plans, of course!
