Thank you to all the people who helped make the 2016 World Day of Prayer Service a special event at Joy!
Thanks to the program participants, music leaders, ushers, kitchen staff, AV technician, and the World Day of Prayer planning committee. We were happy to share this day with our ecumenical sisters and brothers from the churches in Prescott. There were over 50 people in attendance, and they generously gave a World Day of Prayer offering of $453 that will be used for World Day of Prayer grants to women in Cuba and in other places in need. Thanks also, to Thrivent Financial, for donating $250 for World Day of Prayer Action Team. That money was used to purchase food items for the Cuban lunch that was served following the service.

More WELCA News
(
Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)
Thanks to the women who attended the March 1st General JWELCA meeting. Among the items discussed were Bold Women's Sunday, World Day of Prayer, Conference Morning of Renewal, NW Wisconsin Synod Women's Convention, the April 24th Spring Banquet, and Card Ministry Update. Donations were given to Luther Park ($100), Global Health Ministries ($100), "His Arms" Ministry for support of our orphan girl in Kenya (approximately $300), Synod Women's Organization Offering ($100), and an amount to cover shipping costs for the quilts we will send to Lutheran World Relief this year. It was also decided that JWELCA would pay the registration fee of $5.00 for anyone who'd like to attend the Conference Morning of Renewal and to pay the $60 registration fee for any woman attending the Synod Women's Convention. It was also approved to purchase two $50 gift cards to bring to the SWO Convention for an in-kind offering for Turning Point for abused women and for Grace Place for homeless families.
If you are interested in what is going on with our NW Wisconsin Synod Women's Organization, take a look at the latest Northwester newsletter hanging on the bulletin board in the narthex hallway. You can read articles on homelessness, exploring Epiphany, human trafficking, etc. You can receive this newsletter for FREE by sharing your name and email address with the newsletter editor, Eleanor Johnson, at [email protected].

Thrivent Members
If you are a benefit member of Thrivent Financial and have 2015 Choice Dollars to direct to a registered organization, you must do so before March 31, 2016 or the funds will be unavailable to donate. The easiest way is to access your account on-line (Thrivent.com) and check your available funds. If you are not sure of your status or have any questions, call Kim at the River Falls Thrivent office (715-425-2056).
Also, if you are a benefit or associate member of Thrivent and would like to sponsor a church or community fund-raiser event with $250 of seed money donated by Thrivent, please consider doing so. The program is called "Action Team" and each benefit member can apply twice each year (every year) and associate members can apply once per year over a 3 year period. If you have any questions, talk with Jim or Bobbie Flatz (home phone 715-262-5960) and we will try to answer your questions and help you with the process.
