Oklahoma governor vetoes bill that would criminalize abortion
WH
Theodore Schleifer, Will Cadigan
and Kristen Holmes write in a 5.20.16 CNN post:

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin on Friday vetoed a bill that would criminalize abortion procedures in the state...

The Oklahoma state legislature passed the legislation on Thursday. According to the bill's language, anyone who is found to have performed an abortion -- except in instances to save the life of the mother -- would be found guilty of a felony and could receive up to three years in prison.

The decision to veto the bill, which likely would have opened up the state to lawsuits from abortion rights supporters, comes at a time when Fallin is considered a possible running mate for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

With end of ICD-10 grace period looming, docs must be mindful of code specificity
WH
In a May 20, 2016 Fierce Health IT post by Dan Bowman:

As the end of the first year under ICD-10 fast approaches, physicians who file claims under the Medicare Part B ICD 10 CMS Resource physician fee schedule must be mindful that the end of the one-year grace period for post-payment reviews also looms.

WIM
According to Christine Lee, a manager of provider practice audit services at Ciox Health, "Practices submitting unspecified ICD-10 codes after Oct. 1, 2016, may potentially experience an increase in post-payment audits and quality reporting errors."
Why Does the Physical Exam Stop at the Navel?
WH
Danielle Ofri, MD, in a NY Times blog post dated 5.19.16, states:

When I do a physical exam, I start with the head and work my way down to the toes. Except that there's one gaping divide in that north-south trajectory. Like most internists, when I get to the navel I skip down to the knees. There is something faintly preposterous about doing a "complete physical" and then proceeding to hopscotch past a few key organ systems.

WIM
According to Dr. Ofri:

...our system is set up to favor fragmentation. It's so much easier to write a referral to a gynecologist than to do a pelvic exam myself. It is far quicker to refer to a rheumatologist than to figure out which complex tests to order, and then to have to follow up on the results and figure out what they mean. It's much simpler to refer to a neurologist than to take the time to figure out if a patient's dizziness is serious or not.
