Engineer by trade, LFNY alumnus Marc Jensen recently cast off this title in favor of L'Hermione's wooden decks. A full-scale replica of the Marquis de Lafayette's historic ship was completed this past year and has since traversed the Atlantic and is making its way up the eastern seaboard. 

Fifth grader Yasmeen Kassem-Scott (2023) interviewed Marc about the experience for the LFNY Blog. She and her classmates spent the year learning all about L'Hermione and her times with research projects and a June field trip to tour the ship in Alexandria, Virginia. We hope you had the chance to visit L'Hermione while she was docked in New York City.

On April 29, 2015, LFNY students of the première were honored to welcome back Joanna Macy ('47), who joined Dr. Arthur Plaza, LFNY parent Véronique Christory of International Committee of the Red Cross and speakers from Hibakusha Stories, an oral history project that aims to educate students about the dangers of nuclear warfare through stories of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and their aftermath. During the moving panel discussion, Nagasaki survivor Yasuaki Yamshita recounted his narrow escape from death. Joanna then shared her experience learning of the disaster as a then-Lycée student on summer holiday, a memory that has shaped both her disposition and life choices.

Class of 2005, take out your calendars. This year, the Lycée will be hosting your ten-year reunion on August 8 on the 2nd-floor patio at the school. As of early July, over half of the class is already planning to attend the event! Thank you very much to Justine Goy for her tireless efforts in arranging and organizing the reunion.
