Leadership
Gov. John Hickenlooper nominated Donna Lynne to serve as Lieutenant Governor effective upon formal confirmation by the General Assembly. Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia announced previously that he will leave the state to take on the role of president of Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. His last day will be April 29, 2016.

Lynne is currently the executive vice president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, overseeing more than an $8 billion budget, 1.3 million members and 16,000 employees for Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.    Read more

Key Issue: International Business
Did you hear about the Governor's Award for Excellence in Exporting? It's an annual award to recognize economic growth through international business, and World Trade Center Denver and OEDIT are now accepting applications for the 2016 awardee.  

The Excellence in Exporting award provides official recognition from the State of Colorado and can help local companies increase their competitiveness in international markets. The 2015 awardees were Diversified Machine Systems and Dean Swift Seed Co., and Oliver Manufacturing was the 2014 recipient.  Read more
Key Issue: Energy & Environment
The Colorado Petroleum Council issued the following statement from Executive Director Tracee Bentley in addition to testimony opposing House Bill 1355 that would effectively bypass scientific expertise and remove oversight by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC). The bill conflicts with Colorado's safe, efficient development of natural resources and could jeopardize further job creation while increasing costs for local governments.   Read more

Our friends at the Markle Foundation just went live with Skillful on March 17, 2016, and they chose Denver as the place to launch. Skillful is a community of online resources and navigators that connects job seekers to employers with well-paying jobs and educators who can help them acquire new skills, and advance their careers. They'll be on Connect and Collaborate radio next week, March 30. Read more

Key Issue: Health and Retirement
Imagine Colorado, a program of the Colorado Innovation Network and LiveWell Colorado, has extended the challenge out by two weeks with a new submission deadline of April 15.

They have a new video that is available  here. Submissions can be made on behalf of organizations as well (hint, hint).
  Ideas should focus on one of two categories:  Physical Activity (ideas to get  kids moving and engage our outdoor spaces differently) or  Nutrition (ideas that provide kids access to healthy foods and the education to make good choices).   Read more
Creative Industries


The 303 ArtWay is Denver's first Art, Health, and Heritage themed urban trail. The paved walking and biking path will ultimately link the neighborhoods of Park Hill, City Park, Skyland, Whittier, Cole, Clayton, and Elyria Swansea with the new 40th & Colorado rail station on the University of Colorado A-Line from Union Station to DIA, opening next month.

This public trail will add pedestrian and biking connections where none currently exist, as well as incorporating public art, distinctive directional signage, and historical markers to celebrate the unique identity and cultural history of Northeast Denver's neighborhoods. To support and provide feedback about the 303 ArtWay, complete the online survey Read more
