How To Speak Episcopalian
The Good Word this week is
The Nicene Creed
The Nicene Creed is usually recited/read just after the sermon and before the Prayers of the People. This Creed is a general statement of beliefs that dates back, in part, to the Council of Nicaea, called by the Emperor Constantine in 325 C.E.
The contents of the Creed relied primarily on the baptismal promises made by the early church. It went through a number of changes between that original council and the Council of Constantinople in 450 C.E.
We have it in our Book of Common Prayer in two forms, on pages 326 through 328. Rite II is a contemporary translation prepared by the International Consultation on English Texts. The Rite One text on page 327 includes traditional wording that has been used since the time of Archbishop Thomas Cranmer.
Whether we state our faith in contemporary terms or use the ancient words, we join that "great cloud of witnesses," each time we pledge our faith.

It's Time for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt
And we have a BUNCH of Easter Eggs to fill! Ann Harrington has advised that we still need a LOT of wrapped candy to fill those eggs. We'll have more kids than ever this year, and we need more candy than ever. Please bring it to the Narthex on Sunday. Wrapped candy ONLY, please. |
From the Thrift Shop
Lana Beyer, ECR Thrift Shop manager has advised that the shop will be closed on Good Friday, March 25th, and will re-open for business on Monday March 28th. Lana and all her volunteer staff wish everyone a Blessed Easter.

Dudley Baker Announces Post-Easter Blood Drive
On Saturday, April 9th, we are having our first 2016 blood drive. What better time to offer the gift that can save a life than in Easter, the season of new life -- Resurrection Life. That is what we celebrate every day around here. May we work hard this year to transform the words Resurrection Life to Resurrection Blood!
We need the help of every one of you, who gives regularly. Help us publicize this ministry. Tell another member how fulfilling it is to help an unknown person in need -- perhaps to save a life! Tell them how quick and easy it is. Remind them that blood is a precious substance, that comes only from one source -- the arm of a healthy, grateful servant with 40 minutes to spare. You can even tell them how good the cookies are!
Sign up in the Narthex to join us, and save a life, in the name of our Lord!
Your Brother in Christ,
Dudley Baker
