Julie McElmurry, Director of Franciscan Passages(and former volunteer) served as the editor for this book. We had a conversation with her about the project.

Few Words and Many Deeds

Pope Francis is calling all to be missionary disciples, to go out and draw others into relationship with Jesus Christ, not simply by words, but by deeds. During Lent, particularly on Fridays, he is witnessing to all how simple it is to do by making informal visits to the poor and the marginalized - a homeless shelter, a nursing home, a drug rehab center. Simple, but very clear actions that show how to live the Works of Mercy in everyday life.

Discernment Retreat
April 15-17, 2016

How will you continue to live out the values that were so much a part of your service year when that year is over? How will those values shape what's next for you? Catholic Volunteer Network, in partnership with Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, is offering weekend retreats that provide space to discern how you can foster these values and live out your passion, and the possibility of religious life as a way to do so. Each weekend will provide a balance of reflection on your volunteer service, input on the skills of discernment, quiet time for reflection, and sharing with the other participants on the retreat.
The retreats are rooted in the Catholic tradition. All are welcome to participate. Thanks to the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, we are able to offer these regional retreats free of charge, and provide travel reimbursement for participants.

From Mission to Mission seeks to help returned missioners and volunteers live mission here in their home culture, in a way that honors those to whom they have said goodbye. Their workshops are for domestic AND international volunteers and missioners from any program, university, diocese, etc. Former volunteers can attend our workshop in the months or even years after completing their term of service. The workshop is not just for those who recently finished their service.

Catholics on Call - Young Adult Conference

Every summer, Catholics on Call hosts a four-day program at Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago. This experience is designed for women and men (ages 18 to 30) who may be thinking about a life of service in the Church as a lay minister, religious sister or brother, or priest, and those who are undecided and want guidance in determining how God is calling them.
