'Cheap Cabernet: A Friendship'
Feature Film Launches 2016 Website
Movie based on Cathie Beck's poignant, best-selling memoir to film in 2017

DENVER, March 24, 2016 - With development underway, the feature film "Cheap Cabernet: A Friendship" has a new online presence: www.cheapcabernetthemovie.com .

Main Man Films is producing the feature film based on the best-selling memoir "Cheap Cabernet: A Friendship," written by Denver author Cathie Beck. "Beaches" author Iris Rainer Dart has described the book as a "poignant memoir that will remind every woman to call her best friend right away."

Filming is expected to begin in 2017, with completion anticipated in 2018.

"We're thrilled to see this award-winning project moving forward," says Producer Arthur O. Thomas, founder of Main Man Films, an international digital creation and film production company based in Englewood, Colo. "'Cheap Cabernet' is a powerful story told from a uniquely female perspective -- a perspective often overlooked by mainstream Hollywood moviemakers."

The book is being adapted for screen by Trai Cartwright, a screenwriter and entertainment industry veteran who has written screenplays for Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning producers, as well as for Main Man's 2016 film "Secret Ellington."

"Cheap Cabernet: A Friendship" is an often-hysterical, always-sincere story about two women who, on paper, should never have been friends. Beck was a former teenage mother who managed to educate herself and her children; Denise was an award-winning artist, an intellectual and a brilliant business woman. With her kids in college, Beck was finally ready to have some fun, but she had no idea how to do it and no friends to do it with. So she invented a women's group (WOW: Women on the Way) and eight women, including Denise, showed up to the first meeting.  From that first meeting, a meteoric, once-in-a-lifetime friendship formed.

In addition to being an award-winning writer, Beck is a longtime film and theater critic, a member of the Colorado Film and Video Association, a founding member of the Emerging Women in Film and Media Colorado chapter, and a staunch advocate for women in the film industry. The Cheap Cabernet movie website was launched last week in celebration of the Denver Film Society's Women+Film Festival, Beck says.

Hyperion Books published "Cheap Cabernet" in 2010. The book went on to become a Denver Post Best Sellers book five times and is the only memoir named a "Great Group Read" by the National Women's Book Association. The book also was a 2011 Books for a Better Life Award honoree.
