The FAWCO Foundation is extremely proud that, thanks to the involvement of FAWCO Member Clubs and individual Members throughout the world, we have raised over $100,000 in the first year our Target fundraising campaign for Free The Girls.

This achievement reflects powerfully on our dedication to empowering women, not only in our own Clubs or in our own countries, but extending support to the most vulnerable of our sisters throughout the world.

I would also like to congratulate the Backing Women team and thank them for their creativity, dedication and hard work.

We are grateful to every club that has contributed so far and we encourage everyone to participate in this collective effort for Free The Girls.

              Friendship Quilt 2016

FAWCO Friendship Quilt 2015 "Liberare"

Now for the 2016 instructions! I really wanted a special block signifying women's rights to go with the final year of the Target Project, but the traditional ones seem too complex for a 6" block.
You'll need 5 different colors. Please use solid colors, no prints. Use 100% cotton. Be very precise so that your block measures exactly 6.5 inches (which will finish to a 6" block when everything is sewn together). So go to the link and follow the steps! (Sewing instructions are on page 1, cutting instructions on page 2. Just ignore her suggestions for making this into an entire quilt!) Then sign your block using either embroidery or a Pigma pen (0.5mm permanent archive quality).

The deadline, as usual, is October 10, 2015.
This year, my calendar will be tight and I really do plan to start putting it together the day after the deadline, so NO EXTENSIONS! The best plan would be to get your block finished before the summer so you have plenty of time to show it off to your club. You could mail it to me early -my mailbox is waiting!

P.S. A couple of people have already asked about colors for this quilt. I'd like solids (or tone-on-tone almost-solids), but any color you want. (No novelty prints, no 2-color prints...)
Yes, you may do more than one block. Yes, you may sign your club's name, or your name, or both. (But no date, that will go on the label.)

LIBERATE

"Your past is not your potential. In any hour, you can choose to
liberate the future."
Marilyn Ferguson

In 1980, American author Marilyn Ferguson wrote a book about what she called "a movement that has no name" - a loose network of innovators, united by their desire to create real and lasting change in society. In my new role as Vice President of Fundraising with The FAWCO Foundation, I am inspired by the idea of how we can work together to change the future for women and girls through our Education Awards, Development Grants, NEEEDS, and the Target programs.  Over the year, I have read about innovative FUN-raising events your Clubs have held to support Free the Girls Target project in bulletins and Facebook, and I saw your support during the FAWCO Conference in Rome. In my tenure, I hope to improve our services to Member Clubs by sharing best practices and better understanding what charities your Club is supporting this year. Please share news about the charities you feel passionate about and the fundraising events you hold to support them.  I believe that when we connect to each other, our network can change the world.

In 2014/2015, your Clubs' generosity in donations of bras and money has made a huge impact on Free the Girls. You have helped victims of human trafficking sell secondhand clothing while they go to school, get healthcare and provide for their families. But our commitment for creating sustainable change isn't over yet.  For the program end in 2016, we will be bringing you an exciting new fundraising campaign. Stay tuned!
