The General's WordGeneral
by Ed Thompson, General Presbyter
The Gospel of Mark tells us that as the women approached  the tomb on that first Easter morning they were wondering - and maybe we should say they were worrying - about who  would roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb . It  turns out they needn't have worried. When they arrived, they discovered that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. This caught them by surprise. Finding a young man in the tomb, presumably an angel, caught them by surprise. The news of the resurrection caught them by surprise. That is the reality of Easter. It is full of surprises. Really, our God is full of surprises.   Continue reading...

One Great Hour of SharingOne
We all have a gift to give. The contributions we make each day are as unique as we are: we may give our talents to accomplish something, give our time to help someone, or give our resources to further a cause. While our individual gifts have great value, so much more is gained when we share them in faithful collaboration.  Continue reading...
Shared Mission Pledge Cards shared
Notice to Church Pastors, Treasurers, and Clerks:   As the first quarter comes to a close, this is friendly reminder from your presbytery Treasurer that, if your church has not returned a Shared Mission Pledge card to the presbytery office, it is not too late to do so. Your church's response to the Shared Mission Pledge request is information vital to the efficient and effect management of the presbytery's financial resources and assets. If you are unsure if your church has returned pledge card or have any questions, please call Rocky Poole, Presbytery Treasurer, 304-744-7634.
Joint Good Friday WorshipGoodFriday
religion_candles5.jpg
The congregations of First, Highlawn, and Riverlawn Presbyterian Churches of St. Albans and First Presbyterian Church of Nitro,  would like to invite you, along with those in your congregations and communities, to join us for a special time of worship, an upcoming Good Friday Tenebrae Service. T his year's service will take place at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Kanawha Terrace, Saint Albans, 25177, beginning at  7 PM.

Dating back to before the 8th century, the service progresses from light to dark.  The word tenebrae literally means "shadows."  As each candle is extinguished, it symbolizes the shadows that surrounded Jesus and the cross.  Total darkness reminds us of Christ's death and the tomb. The readers represent all of humanity sharing in responsibility for Jesus sacrifice for our sins.

  • We celebrate with Fayetteville Presbyterian as they welcomed their new (Stated Supply) pastor, Bob Wood, on Sunday, March 6, with a spaghetti dinner following the church service.
  • We celebrate with the Logan Cluster and the Teays Valley Cluster as they have joined in prayer as part of the Prayer Vision Initiative.
  • The March 12 Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop at First Presbyterian Charleston was a success with 76 attendees. One half of those attending were from Presbytery churches; represented were Bradley, Comfort, First Williamstown, Highlawn, Riverlawn, Rock Lake, Village Chapel. Eight other denominations were represented, including folks from Ohio and Kentucky.  Dr. Schooley was engaging as he taught skills to assist those grieving losses and how to begin a Stephen Ministry Program in your own congregation.

Synod Regional Connection for Partnership and Networking synod
You are invited to the Synod of the Trinity's Regional Connection for Partnership and Networking. "Partnership and Networking around what," you might ask? "Partnership and Networking for whom?" you might ask?

This "first run" Regional Connection is an opportunity for us (the Synod of the Trinity!) to gather and spend time together in a new way that is not the same as our large Assembly. We gather, not as the Synod in its governance work, but as the Synod - its people, presbyteries and congregations - in relationship for ministry: many people with many gifts, seeking to serve Christ's Kingdom.
Events will run from April 21 through April 26, with several event locations and focus areas.   For complete event details,  click here.   To register, click here!
