List of Items to be Recycled at Fair

The focus of this year's Fair has shifted slightly to become a recycling-only event. Residents are invited to drop off metals (e.g. tools, pots & pans, yard furniture); electronics (e.g. printers, computer monitors); and bring any confidential documents for shredding (no 3-ring type binders).  The Somerset County Sheriff's Office will collect unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications (no needles or sharps will be accepted). Other groups will be on hand to accept gently used clothing; children's books and toys (to benefit the Carolyn Stokes Day Nursery in Trenton); adult & children bicycles (for Boys & Girls Club of Trenton); sneakers & sporting goods (to support Kicks 4 Caribya); markers, highlighters and dry erase markers; wire clothing hangers; Brita filters, printer cartridges (Technician X), and more.  There will also be a canned goods/supply drive to benefit Montgomery Township's Food Pantry.  The Pantry asks for specific donations such as: cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, paper goods (paper towels, napkins, toilet paper).

"The recycling aspect of our annual Fair is a big hit with the community so we decided to focus exclusively on collections this year. The Fair has attracted as many as a thousand people in recent years," said Mary Reece, chairperson of Montgomery Township's Environmental Commission.

"It's the township's biggest community-wide environmental event.  Last year 3,000 lbs of paper was shredded, 7,120 pounds of metal were recycled, and an astonishing 17,200 pounds of electronics were recycled at the fair!"

"Strong community support for 10 years has helped promote environmentally friendly and sustainable actions in Montgomery," Reece said.
