Chamber in talks with Bruce Power
Chamber representatives will meet with Bruce Power officials next month to continue talks on how the Chamber can lead our area in reaping the maximum economic benefit from the Amended Bruce Power Refurbishment Implementation Agreement. The Agreement pulls together and updates a raft of previous agreements, making it the largest power contract in the world. It  provides a site-wide purchase price, with six of the eight units to be refurbished.
The refurbishment will run from 2020 to 2033, with other capital spending already under way.
A meeting at the Bruce Power Visitors Centre planned for April follows our conference call last month.
United Way campaign wraps up Mar. 31
United Way is reminding donors that this year's cam paign ends March 31.
Organizers are striving to reach the $1.275-million goal.
"Donations are welcome every single day of the year," said Nelson Couto, VP Resource Development & Communications, "But if you pledge your donation before month's end, it will count toward the 2015-16 campaign, and help us move people from poverty to possibility, help kids be all they can be and build strong communities all the sooner."
There's more to United Way than just funding, adds Executive Director Ryan Erb.
"United Way has been a grassroots movement in Canada for almost 100 years. Everyone knows that United Way raises funds. What they may not know is that we also help by leading research and discussions on issues that matter to people. Issues like earning a living wage, youth mental illness, or quality of life for seniors and young families.  n turn, United Way knows where to best invest the dollars raised for maximum impact," he said.
The final amount will be tallied at the Spirit of Community Celebration hosted by the Best Western Arden Park together with several local sponsors on March 31.
You can make a donation or purchase tickets for the celebration by calling 519-271-7730, sending a cheque to 32 Erie Street, Stratford, or online at
2016 Census comes to your door in May
The census is one of the most important sources
of statistics for our country.
Canada's next census will be conducted in May 2016.
Early in May, census packages will be delivered to households across Canada, providing residents with the information they need to complete their questionnaire online or on paper.
Completed questionnaires will provide valuable information that will be used by all levels of government to make decisions about your neighbourhood and community. Information obtained through the census is needed to plan services such as child care, schooling, family services, housing, public transportation and skills training for employment.
Every person, young and old, must be included in the 2016 Census.
