Join us for two important webinars exploring different issues affecting how we respond to and address sexual assault
DATES: Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2 PM ET
Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 2 PM ET

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and we are holding two webinars in our free series, Campus Public Safety Online, in support of this important month.

On Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2 PM ET, we will host You Have Options: An Overview of the National Law Enforcement Sexual Assault Reporting Program . Detective Carrie Hull, program director of You Have Options Program (YHOP), and Christia Currie, training and information specialist, will join us to discuss the 20 Elements of the YHOP, as well as the implementation process for participating law enforcement agencies, including sworn campus law enforcement agencies.

YHOP is led by law enforcement professionals working in partnership with victim advocates and experts in the field of sexual assault response and prevention. The aim of the program is to make the law enforcement response to sexual assault more effective. Specifically, YHOP focuses on changing two fundamental elements in the law enforcement response to sexual violence:
  • Increasing the number of victims who report to law enforcement
  • Thoroughly investigating identified offenders for serial perpetration
Traditional law enforcement response to sexual violence tends to discourage sexual assault victims from seeking assistance through the criminal justice system. As a result, law enforcement often fails to receive the information needed to hold sexual offenders accountable, and perpetrators go on to re-offend. By removing as many barriers as possible, victims are better able to report their sexual assault and provide law enforcement with information they would otherwise never have received.

The deadline to register for our YHOP webinar is Tuesday, April 5, 2016.

On Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 2 PM ET, Tom Tremblay, retired police chief of Burlington, VT and national advisor on sexual assault prevention, will present Sexual Assault: Courageous Conversations and Bystander Intervention . Tom will advocate for having "courageous community conversations." These conversations must include understanding the realities of the problem, the call for more boys and men to be part of the solution, and expanding our knowledge for more effective bystander intervention. He will focus on the importance of challenging societal attitudes surrounding sexual assault, how alcohol is often used by offenders as a weapon against victims, and also as a shield to excuse their behaviors. This webinar is a call to action, encouraging listeners to be leaders in sexual assault awareness and prevention by standing up, speaking out, and engaging in courageous conversations that will make a difference.

The deadline to register for our Courageous Conversations webinar is Friday, April 15, 2016.

We hope you can join us for one, or both, of these informative webinars. If you have any questions, please
contact us.

Registration deadlines are Tuesday, April 5th and
Friday, April 15th, respectively.
