MITZVAH OF TZEDAKAH AND MATANOT L'EVYONIM (FOR PURIM)

As part of the Purim customs, we ask for a monetary donation of any amount to be made to Od Yosef Chai, our school's Matanot L'evyonim project.
  • For the past thirty years, schools in the United States, Canada and Australia have undertaken Matanos L'evyonim campaigns on behalf of Od Yosef Chai.  Matanos L'evyonim - that is, the giving of gifts to two impoverished Jews - is a Rabbinically mandated mitzvah which every man and woman must fulfill on Purim.
  • Check out their video at: http://www.odyosefchai.org/#!media

Another custom is that of giving tzedakah.  Akiba's partner in this mitzvah is "Standing Together", an organization founded by visiting IDF soldier, Ari Fuld.  Ari's request is for each student to donate $1 and a hand written letter that goes towards the Mishloach Manot for IDF soldiers.

Please send with your children this week.
