PIA MidAmerica is the #1 source for industry-specific programs and educational events.  In this week's newsletter we update our readers on several upcoming educational events as well as the credit/collection tools available through the Association.

Upcoming Programs

With football season right around the corner, it's time to "kickoff" PIA MidAmerica's fall programming.

The fall educational program begins with our Lean Focus Luncheon meeting at Olmsted-Kirk on September 10.  The meeting will feature Dr. Diana Martinez speaking about the "Theory of Constraints."  Contact Dave Pierson for more information.

The third of a series of webinars featuring Zev Asch and produced by Graphic Arts Association (Pennsylvania PIA affiliate) will be offered on September 10th at 10:00 a.m. CDT.  The program titled  Elements of a Successful Website  will cover essential aspects of web design that will make your site an effective sales tool. More information  here .

Our Amarillo printers will have their Fall Kickoff BBQ on September 17.  This annual event is hosted each year by Don Grimm with Graphic Equipment & Supply.  This is a great time to see old friends and make new ones.  Contact Gilbert Guzman at Pope Photo Records for more information.

On September 24 th, the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Postal Council will produce their annual PCC Day and Mail Solutions Showcase at Globe Life Park in Arlington.  PIA MidAmerica will exhibit at the event, and we look forward to seeing our North Texas members.

The morning of September 29th  will feature Bill Schieffer, with the Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast.  Schieffer, who is a 20+ year HR veteran, will present a program titled "Labor Law for Supervisors."  This special Quick Takes Tuesday program is ideal for anyone involved with managing personnel and covers many of the legal "do's and don'ts" of being a supervisor.

The Central Texas membership - and many of their customers - are in for a treat on Wednesday September 30 th when Trish Witkowski with FoldFactory will provide her unique insights into print.  The program is sponsored by Sappi Paper.  For additional information about this program, or any upcoming event, contact us at (800) 788-2040 or [email protected]

Keep Your Cash Flowing

Regardless of how much your business may have changed or will change going into the future, assessing credit risk is still an extremely important aspect of your business.  No business can operate successfully without getting paid for its services.

PIA MidAmerica and its partners provides uniquely crafted programs, whether it performing due diligence research prior to providing a customer credit terms, or collecting a "soured" account. Here are three programs:

PICB - Printing Industries Credit Bureau has a long track record of providing collection services for the printing industry.  Many members of PIA across the U.S. successfully use the services provided by Andrea Schlack and her team.

CheckIt Co - Powered by PICB, this online credit risk assessment site provides customized reports using real time public records that provide a snapshot of a company's history, structure, assets, debt, legal history, and more.

SlowPay/NoPay - For over 40 years, PIA MidAmerica has been providing this credit exchange service to its members. There is no cost to participate in this online program exclusively provided to member companies.  Contact us at [email protected] to register.

Another powerful tool in minimizing problems with collections is communicating your company's terms and conditions of sale.  Yet, it's difficult to begin the process of covering all the bases without spending a small fortune with an attorney.  A simple and more affordable way is downloading PIA's Best Business PracticesThis publication offers model language which can be incorporated into your company's terms and conditions of sale and covers many of the business issues found in our industry.  Download at no cost here.

Customer Events Are Valuable

There is no better way to increase prospect levels then hosting a great customer event. Given the proliferation of customer marketing messages found online, in email and through social media, having a customer event is an excellent way to drown out the noise and gain quality time with prospects says sales guru Joe Rickard.  In this online article, Rickard outlines why this type of event can pay dividends as well as how to make it a memorable one.
Bad Tweet Day

It's a fear of just about every executive in the B2C community: the inappropriate tweet or social media post that garners unwanted negative attention to a company with an otherwise unblemished reputation.

As more and more firms enter the social media realm, the necessity of monitoring what's being said - and more importantly responding - is crucial.  According to online author Samantha Anderson, developing a social governance plan can be one way to keep negative comments from becoming a wildfire.  Read the Target Marketing article here.

Economics

After six years of recovery from the Great Recession, the current pace is upward but barely. Since the official end of the Great Recession in June 2009, the economy has grown 20 out of 23 quarters at an average annual rate of only 2.2 percent-extremely low by historic standards for an economic recovery. The good news is that with a low rate of recovery perhaps there is still life left in the upswing.
