SCOTT SHELTON STEPS DOWN AS RING VP

Scott Shelton asked the Ring #199 Executive Committee to accept his resignation as Ring Vice President. Scott stated that mounting career and family obligations have forced him to take a less demanding role in the Ring. He promised to continue to believe in and support his Ring and his magic friends and peers.

Scott has done an excellent job as Ring President and Vice President and it is with the deepest of regret that Ring President Mike DeSorbo accepted Scott's resignation for the office.

Mike DeSorbo tapped Ring member Matt Kilgore as interim Ring   Vice President pending a special election scheduled for the April 11th Ring meeting.

Thank you for your service, Scott! Welcome to the Ring leadership corps, Matt!

Saturday, April 11th
Lord of Life Lutheran Church
2100 Buffaloe Rd, Garner
Everyone Welcome!

The very popular Annual Ring Magic Auction has been scheduled for Saturday, April 11th. Check-In and Viewing starts at 5:30 PM. The auction kicks off at 6:30 PM.

Please notice the change of venue to Lord of Life Lutheran Church!

This is your opportunity to sell that unused magic sitting in your closet and to buy great magic props, books, videos and more at bargain basement prices.

Certain rules do apply to the auction. Entering the auction as a buyer or seller implies understanding and acceptance of these rules.

Each Seller must present a completed Ring Auction Record at check-in listing each lot item being sold. This Excel form may be downloaded from the club website www.RaleighMagicClub.org.

Sellers should remain with their tables during the viewing to demonstrate items and answer questions. This may enhance sales and keep the auction from bogging down. A Catalog description of the effect printed out and attached to the item helps immensely!

All Bids are Binding!  All Sales are Final! All Auction and Direct Sale Items are sold As-Is! Buyers are strongly encouraged to examine every piece of interest BEFORE the auction begins. Any and all disagreements must be resolved exclusively between the Buyer and the Seller. The Ring accepts no responsibility for resolving disputes

ONCE AN ITEM ENTERS THE AUCTION ROOM, IT BECOMES THE PROPERTY OF THE RING AUCTION AND MAY NOT BE SOLD, HELD, OR SET ASIDE FOR PRIVATE SALE. ANY SELLER OBSERVED DOING THIS WILL BE DISMISSED FROM THE AUCTION.

If the item does not sell at auction, ownership reverts to the Seller after the auction ends and only then may that item be sold privately.

Sellers are required to represent the condition and function of each item in a fair and honest manner.

The minimum starting bid on all items is $10.00.  Buyers are asked to bundle lesser-valued items auction items into bundles with a starting value of $10.00 or more.

A DIRECT SALE TABLE will be available for items valued under $5.00. These items will not be auctioned and will be sold AT THE PRICE MARKED. Mark all Direct Sale Items with the Seller's Number and Price.

To avoid distractions, Direct Sale Items may be removed from the table and purchased only before the auction starts, during auctioneer breaks, and at the end of the auction. The table will be covered and off limits when the auction begins or restarts.

To enhance the potential value of your item or bundle, please provide the auctioneer with:

  • Seller Lot Number plainly marked on each item or bundle.
  • A Full Effect Description and Manufacturer/Author
  • Original Retail Value (If Known)
  • Minimum Acceptable Bid

The Auctioneer is the full and final authority regarding competing and winning bids. His decision is final.

The Ring #199 Treasury retains a 15% commission on all auction and direct sales. No fee is collected for unsold items.

Buyers and Sellers must open an account at the start of the auction. Accounts may only be settled during breaks and at the end of the auction. Payment in full for all items purchased is required at the close of the auction. Printed receipts will be provided for purchases and sales.

Accounts may only be settled during Auctioneer breaks and at the end of the auction. There can be no exceptions to this rule.

All accounts must be settled in full at the end of the auction. Payment from buyers will be accepted in cash or personal checkCash is preferred. Buyers paying in cash will be permitted to cash out first at the end of the lecture.

Sellers will be paid in cash, when possible, and by Ring check if the cash is not available.

We Cannot Accept Credit/Debit Cards. Second-Party Checks, or Counter Checks.

A $35.00 service charge will be added to any check returned unpaid for any reason. Buyers paying by check accept full responsibility for all court costs or legal fees accrued to collect on any personal check returned unpaid for any reason.

Admission is Free for Ring Members & Youth (& Parents).

SCHEDULED LECTURES & WORKSHOPS
Wednesday April 15th, 7:00 PM
HANNIBAL - AT THE TABLE CLOSE-UP
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This lecture is worth its wait in just the magic philosophy that is discussed. Hannibal is a thinker and a good teacher. Even if you don't like his presentation or his style I would still check this out. The things that he teaches apply to everyone. Hannibal is a real working magician and what he performs is a show that he has perfected over time. This lecture is not full of brand new magic that will fool your magic buddies, instead it is a look into why we do magic. Let's touch on the tricks taught.

Lethal Weapon: A spectator names a celebrity and it was perfectly predicted on a large banner.

Road House: 10 cards are counted and placed in a womans blouse. This is repeated for another woman and a number of cards transports from one to another.

Mystery Card: A card is selected and lost in the deck. Another card is placed face down on the table. The magician tries to guess the card by having the spectator lie and name any card in the deck. The named card happens to be the card on the table and the magician is able to divine the selected card. The magician then makes them change places.

The Pringles Act: A card appears repeatedly under a Pringles can. Another card is selected and it appears under the can as well. The card vanishes from the deck appearing on the magicians forehead and the deck appears under the can. The signed card then is shown to have been hiding clipped inside the can the whole time.

Pringles Chop Cup: A small potato is placed under a pringles can, it jumps to the magicians pocket and back under the can. The can is placed on a spectators hand and a tomato appears. The routine ends with the production of an onion and a Parmesan cheese shaker from the can.

An Idea From Juan Tamariz: He quickly covers a very difficult way for a spectator to find their own card. They name a card and then cut to that card.

Elves Shoes (Performance Only): Telling the story of the elves and the shoemaker the magician slowly folds a bill into an elf boot.

Silver Memories(Performance Only): This is a version of coins and cylinder that is beautiful to watch. For all of the performance only magic you can check out his DVD.

Along with those pieces you get tons of info regarding restaurant work, branding, and how to improve your magic. You get a lot of good information here, a few fun stories and I think that most will enjoy what they get.

Magic in Review
THE CONTROLS PROJECT by LIAM MONTIER

Liam Montier has created an exceptional teaching DVD for our rabid card guys & gals. This DVD is part of Big Blind Media's goal of "... producing the strongest, most innovative and most workable magic around in the 21st century."

The DVD does an excellent job of teaching even cardophobes like me 25 common and not-so-common card controls then employs some of these controls in six excellent card effects.

The camera work on this DVD is excellent. Liam's method of teaching are precise and very easy to follow. This DVD would be an excellent addition to any cardophile's library.

This is the third in a growing series of "Projects" offered by Big Blind Media. If you find this DVD as helpful as I did, you may also be interested in his The Elmsley Count Project, The False Shuffles & Counts Project, and The Forces Project DVDs.

$35.00 available through The Magic Corner and www.BigBlindMedia.com.
