#NotTheSame

#NotTheSame is about creating awareness and challenging stereotypes to shed light on the real journeys and narratives of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). The campaign is inspired by the unheard AAPI stories of homelessness, poverty, refugee struggles, prejudice, and more.


Comcast-NBCUniversal, one of the largest global media, entertainment, and technology companies, generously provided airtime for APIASF's public service announcement, #NotTheSame, which launched last month in December.

Comcast-NBCUniversal's $1.4M in-kind support,  through more than 120,000 airings during the month of December, enabled  APIASF to give a voice to the unheard stories of countless number of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) across the nation. Misguided stereotypes of AAPIs, due to the "Model Minority Myth," have resulted in creating obstacles for many homeless, poverty-stricken, and refugee families to thrive.

APIASF thanks Comcast-NBCUniversal for supporting these unheard stories across the nation by providing a platform to share such relevant information that inspires people to work toward change.
Report: The Valuable Impact of Scholarships
   
In partnership with the National Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Research in Education (CARE), APIASF released  "The Impact of Scholarships for Asian American and Pacific Islander Community College Students: Findings from an Experimental Design Study."  This report which outlines the measurable impact of scholarship funding on the educational experiences and academic achievement of AAPI community college students from three AANAPISI campus partners: City College of San Francisco, De Anza College, and South Seattle College.
Become an APIASF Volunteer Reader
 
It's that time of year again! We are  currently seeking 400 more volunteer readers for the APIASF General Scholarship program. Readers may access a secure website to review scholarship applications at their convenience during the read period (January 11 - March 11, 2016).  To ensure that there are enough readers to evaluate all applications, readers are asked to commit to completing a minimum of 20 applications. Each application takes approximately 10-15 minutes to review. All readers must have an undergraduate college diploma and/or 7-10 years of work experience. 

If you are interested in signing up, complete the new reader registration form, or if you are a returning reader, simply login at the same link with your existing username and password.
Scholars Mentoring Access to Resources and Training (SMART)

APIASF's 3rd SMART ( Scholars Mentoring Access to Resources and Training ) cycle will launch this month.  Over 150 Scholars will be matched with mentors from various industries including Finance, Education, and Engineering.  Scholars and mentors will work on resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation.

Scholars will also attend workshops by Teach for America, UMass Boston, and eXude on career exploration, breaking stereotypes, and Q&A with an HR Expert.
