Rules of the Road by Joan Bauer
In honor of Women's History Month, we highlight Joan Bauer's Rules of the Road, a story about sixteen-year-old Jenna, who gets a job driving the elder owner of a chain of successful shoe stores from Chicago to Texas to confront the son who is trying to force her to retire. Along the way, Jenna hones her talents as a saleswoman and finds the strength to face her alcoholic father.

Shadow Day 
The Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Program is an all-expenses paid opportunity for young people with personal experience in the foster care system to spend time with their Congressional representative, as well as White House officials, in Washington, D.C. The dates of associated travel and events are Sun., May 22nd through Fri, May 27th, 2016. Deadline: March 18th, 2016 Learn more

Summer Teen Internship Program 2016
Generations United member,  DOROT, has a Summer Teen Internship Program, which offers two four-week sessions for high school students to be of service to older adults. Eligible applicants are students entering 10th grade through graduating seniors. Through a competitive process, they choose up to 18 interns for each session.  Deadline: May 13, 2016  Learn more

Two Internship Opportunities with a Chicago-based Program
Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly Chicago Chapter has two internship opportunities. The first is a  Summer Program Event Intern for college students  who want to build their preparation and planning skills. Think Intergenerational - Funding Opportunities
2015-2016 OMEGA Scholarships. Through the generous sponsorship of the MIT AgeLab, the   New England University Transportation Center , and AARP , OMEGA is proud to offer   three new $1000  college scholarships to recognize and reward the efforts that young adults are making to create multigenerational connections. High school juniors and seniors living in one of the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) are eligible to apply for scholarships. Innovations in American Government Awards.  Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation is offering the $100,000  Roy and Lila Ash Innovations Award for Public Engagement in Government , a special Innovations Award that will recognize government-led programs that demonstrate novel and effective approaches to increasing public engagement and participation in the governance of towns, cities, states, and the nation.  Deadline: April 15, 2016.   Learn more

The Summit on Creativity and Aging in America. The Summit was a collaboration with the 2015 White House Conference on Aging and the National Center for Creative Aging. It helps set goals to overcome ageism with collective advocacy that promotes lifelong learning, health and wellness, and age friendly communities through creative engagement, through the arts, humanities, and design. Creating an Age-Advantaged Community: A Toolkit for Building Intergenerational Communities that Recognize, Engage and Support All Ages.  This resource from Generations United helps communities make intentional efforts to build connections between the generations. 

Managing Lead in Drinking Water at Schools and Early Childhood Education Facilities.  This report from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation is a comprehensive source of best practices for lead sampling and analysis in schools and early childhood education facilities across the country. Learn more

State of Grandfamilies in America: 2015.  In this  second edition of the annual State of Grandfamilies in America report , Generations United identified key state laws and policies specifically designed to address barriers and better support the diverse and unique population of grandparents and other relatives raising children.
