THE BRIDGE TO SECONDARY SUCCESS * VOLUME 3 ISSUE 10 / MARCH 7, 2016
Early release, conferences held this week

Carrollton Middle School will have early release this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 8-10, at 12:30 in order for parents and teachers to participate in student conferences. Conferences will be held between 1:30 and 3:45 p.m. If you have not scheduled a time for conferences, please contact your child's teacher.

While you're at conferences, be sure to visit our Milestone Crunch. Drop by the CMS Media Center conference room during conferences to receive crucial information about the upcoming End-of-Year Test! You can ask questions AND get resources to prepare your child for testing.

In addition, there will also be a school holiday on Friday for students and staff so, NO SCHOOL! Enjoy your long weekend!
Benchmarks assist
in placement

Benchmarks are under way this week! Please be sure that students get plenty of rest and a good breakfast.

It is important that students give their best effort on benchmarks as scores are used to make placement decisions for next year. We ask that students arrive no later than 8:10 and avoid check outs as much as possible.

CMS students  place in 4-H completion

Three Carrollton Middle School 4-H members attended 4-H Project Achievement at Rock Eagle 4-H Center Feb. 13 and returned home with several top awards. Sydney Porter placed first in Performing Arts Instrumental. Rachel Street placed first in Horse with Hannah Shellnut coming second.

The 4-Hers write and present a five to six minute speech with posters. Project Achievement teaches students how to speak in front of a group. Congratulations to our three finishers!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
A student representing an influential Black figure gives his presentation to a group in the cafeteria.
These students shared important stories of the accomplishments of Black Americans during presentations held in the school cafeteria.
Celebrating the influence
during Black History Month

This year's CMS Black History Month was a huge success. Each day a different influential person in Black History was highlighted on the morning announcements.  Jazz music was played on Wednesdays in cafeteria.

During Trojan Time, the students decorated the classroom doors to highlight individual or groups of people in black history. The winners were the classes of teachers Lakeia King, Ashley Wilson and Kristae Lawler. The winners received a doughnut party.

A few sixth graders participated in enacting a Black History performance for all grades. See the photos above.

Ms. Ashley Wilson's winning Black History Month classroom door featured a social media twist. It  "shared" interesting facts through her "Insta History" decoration. Examples of hashtag discussion topics used in the display include #freedom, #4GoldMedals and #IHaveADream.
Unexpected Leap Day treat

Last week Mike Bell Chevrolet treated our teachers to breakfast and a little fun as part of Georgia Chevy Dealers' #DayItForward.
#DayItForward is when Chevrolet representatives get an extra 24 hours in 2016 to help deliver unexpected goodness to people and communities. On Feb. 29, Leap Day, Mike Bell Chevrolet decided to treat Carrollton Middle School's Teachers & Staff to breakfast from Chick-fil-A. Many thanks to Mike Bell Chevrolet for being such a strong community partner!
