Happy new year!
Thank you for support in a great push to the end of 2014 - with your help we reached our goal and raised over $20,000 with our year-end push! Happy New Year! Thank you to everyone who donated to YVSC as part of our year-end fundraising campaign. With the help of more than 120 donors, we reached our goal of $20,000! Thank you! With the support of so many people, we have lots of great projects planned!
What would a New Year be without New Year's Resolutions? Here are a few of our 2015 resolutions to make life in the Yampa Valley more sustainable:
Knowing that sustainability is important to so many in our community is inspiring, and we look forward to reporting on our resolution progress!

February 2 - Passive House Talking Green

The term passive house (Passivhaus in German) refers to a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling

Food Chains Documentary

Food Chains reveals the human cost in our food supply and the complicity of large buyers of produce like fast food and supermarkets. Fast food is big, but supermarkets are bigger - earning $4 trillion globally. They have tremendous power over the agricultural system. Over the past three decades they have drained revenue from their supply chain leaving farmworkers in poverty and forced to work under subhuman conditions. Yet many take no responsibility for this.

Recycle your Holiday Trees and Lights
For the entire month of January the City of Steamboat will collect your real everygreen trees in the Ice Arena parking lot at 285 Howelsen Parkway. PLEASE take everything off your tree prior to drop-off (no tinsel, lights, etc), it will be mulched and used throughout the city in the spring. NO WREATHS (contain wire).
ALSO, Ace Hardware has a crate next to the check-out registers for recycling broken or unwanted Holiday Lights.
