Sustaining our community for future generations

Happy new year!

Thank you for support in a great push to the end of 2014 - with your help we reached our goal and raised over $20,000 with our year-end push! Happy New Year! Thank you to everyone who donated to YVSC as part of our year-end fundraising campaign. With the help of more than 120 donors, we reached our goal of $20,000! Thank you! With the support of so many people, we have lots of great projects planned!

What would a New Year be without New Year's Resolutions?
Here are a few of our 2015 resolutions to make life in the Yampa Valley more sustainable:
  • Launch a new Energy Efficiency Rebate and Incentive Program,
en$ible Energy, coming in February. With support from YVEA and the City of Steamboat Springs, there will be $22,000 available to increase energy efficiency in your home or small business.

  • Conduct Phase II of a Recycling Study to increase waste diversion throughout Northwest Colorado through regional partnerships.

  • Roll out a new mission statement and strategic plan to guide the active role  that YVSC takes in making Routt County a more resilient and livable community.

Knowing that sustainability is important to so many in our community is inspiring, and we look forward to reporting on our resolution progress!

Happy and Healthy 2015!

The term passive house (Passivhaus in German) refers to a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling

Food Chains Documentary
Wednesday, February 11th
6:30pm Bud Werner Memorial Library Hall

Food Chains reveals the human cost in our food supply and the complicity of large buyers of produce like fast food and supermarkets. Fast food is big, but supermarkets are bigger - earning $4 trillion globally. They have tremendous power over the agricultural system. Over the past three decades they have drained revenue from their supply chain leaving farmworkers in poverty and forced to work under subhuman conditions. Yet many take no responsibility for this.

This free film is presented by Bud Werner Memorial Library on behalf of the Bud Werner Seed Library, Lift-Up of Routt CountyLiveWell Northwest Colorado and the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council.
