June 2015
Issue 77
Summer is just around the corner!
It's been a wet spring and our Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area planting for ReTree 2015 has been delayed by those rains - please see first article below for more on our three upcoming plantings this week! We'd love to have you join us!

Summer also means Zero Waste season has commenced! YVSC has two new interns this summer, but we also lean on dozens of volunteers all season long to make this program work. We need your assistance in either on-site participation staffing Zero Waste stations or word-of-mouth to help us recruit more volunteers! If you know of anyone that needs service hours, please send them our way -- it's a fun shift that involves much more that just "sorting trash." You're helping people understand WHY Zero Waste events are important to the Yampa Valley environment.

Last, our Friends of YVSC monthly giving campaign is back! When you support YVSC with a monthly donation, you're sustaining our many programs, events, initiatives, and our purpose -- furthering sustainability in the Yampa Valley. Read more below and please consider joining Friends of YVSC today!

As always, thanks for your support!

Becoming a Zero Hero

Being a hero isn't just digging through recycle bins -- our volunteers get much more out of these shifts than smelly arms!

Engaging our locals and visitors in meaningful waste-diversion conversations is what being a "Zero Hero" is all about. Come learn about why recycling is challenging in rural Northwest Colorado, what the difference is between

Being a Zero Hero is for all ages!

industrial and residential composting, how compost is made, what is compostable, what is recyclable, and so much more!

Volunteers earn:

  • Community service hours
  • An awesome super-hero T-shirt
  • Tasty handouts (beer? food? swag? It depends on the event!)
  • Valuable knowledge they can take use at home
  • And yes, good karma waste diversion points!

Colorado Innovative Ag Diversity-- Encompassing Water Conservation by 2030
Talking Green: Future of Agriculture using Aquaponics

Tuesday, June 23, 5:30-7pm at CMC Auditorium
with Kristen Cooper of GULF and Senator Gail Schwartz

Come join us for an evening of discovery, where we will discuss a vision for Agriculture in the state of Colorado by 2030. Through the diversification of our Ag portfolio with aquaponics, Colorado can be primed to grow revenue for the state and its Ag industry while being sensitive to future water constraints. GULF, Inc. can help support the sustainability of Colorado's agriculture through innovative, state of the art technologies in the areas of aquaculture, hydroponics and renewable energy.
