Your Monthly News & Updates
Fall is a very busy time here at The Kidney Foundation. Throughout the months of September and early October, Kidney Walkers in 41 communities took steps to create a better future for Canadians living with kidney disease. We are pleased to announce that over $725,000 was raised. Thank you to the thousands of participants, donors and volunteers who gathered together to raise funds to support kidney research, programs and support services for all Canadians living with kidney disease. Walk photos and the list of our Kidney Walk Champions will be posted shortly on our walk website.
Take Control
The best way to manage your kidney disease is to be informed and educated. You are an important member of your healthcare team, afterall, you know best how you are feeling. Here are a few tips for becoming the best manager of your health.
Getting your annual flu shot is especially important for people living with chronic kidney disease (including transplant recipients) because they have a greater risk of developing more severe complications from the flu. If you are a new transplant recipient, within the first 6 months, it is advisable to check with your transplant coordinator to make sure your transplant team allows flu shots in the first 6 months after transplant. Caregivers and family members who frequently come into contact with patients should also get immunized as early as possible to help reduce the chance of infection.
