Congratulations to the Rev. Dr.  Lindley G. DeGarmo, who was recently elected to serve as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Board of Pensions. The Board of Pensions administers pension, healthcare, death, and disability benefits and financial assistance for qualifying members of the PC(USA).

Commission on Reconciliation
In 2015 the Commission on Reconciliation undertook a group study of When Helping Hurts, by Steve Corbett & Brian Fikkert. This video-driven small group experience was transformational for many in our group, and they shared much with their own congregations and mission committees. The Commission decided to share many of these learnings with mission leaders throughout the Presbytery. Additionally, we have worked through Principles of Reconciliation for our Presbytery mission partnerships. We would like to share these principles as they are adapted for mission work in congregations.
All mission leaders, pastors and other interested folks are invited to a Mission Summit on Apr. 23 from 10am to 2pm at Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church in Columbia. Free lunch will be provided to all who RSVP. During the Summit, we welcome you to:
- Review the video study guide with those who have used it in their congregations
- Access the most current PC(USA) resources available for Mission work as gathered by participants at the national "Mission Magnified" conference
- Learn how to inculcate Principles of Reconciliation in your congregation
- Hear from two very different models at work today in our congregations that are relational and participatory: The Open Table and Bridges to Opportunity
- Network with other mission leaders in the Presbytery
- Hear from leaders of each Presbytery Partnership including The Center, Guatemala CEDEPCA, El Centro Cuba and Baltimore Dakota Learning Camps.

A View from the Pulpit: Occasional Stories of Human Interest
What's a new pastor to do when he comes down with a bad case of laryngitis before Sunday's worship service?

nding before the congregation of Havenwood Presbyterian Church yesterday in that very predicament, the Rev. David Willerup set aside his talking points on the parable of the "Prodigal Son" and, instead, performed the entire sermon -- as well as, Communion -- in pantomime.
Several church members exclaimed that the improvised worship service was one of the most creative and innovative ever delivered from Havenwood's pulpit. Rev. Willerup rendered the congregation spellbound as he performed the parable in four acts. At one point, while dramatizing the angry departure of the prodigal son, Rev. Willerup flung his suit jacket to the floor. It remained there until the end of the story, at which he lifted it up and draped it like a cloak around the imaginary shoulders of the repentant son. The performance was met with resounding applause from the congregation and followed by a reverent-- albeit silent -- communion.
Rev. Willerup was installed as pastor of Havenwood Presbyterian Church during a service later that day.
Please include him in your prayers as he recovers at home from laryngitis.
