Thanks to all who donated to GIVE.CHOOSE on May 5!
On May 5th for 24 hours the Waterford Foundation participated in a crowdfunding opportunity called Give.Choose. The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties sponsored this event as part of a nation-wide program called Give Local America.
81 donors gave a total of $7,530 to the Foundation.
Add to that the $800 pledged by our Board, the generous match of $800 provided by an anonymous donor, and the awards and prizes totaling $2,250 and the Waterford Foundation received $11,380 from this day of giving!
Your donation will go a long way toward helping us preserve our historic buildings and save neighboring farms and open spaces from development while sharing Waterford's history through educational and cultural programs.

Stories from the Archives: The Rise and Fall of Browns' Castle
On May 24, at 7 p.m. the Waterford Foundation is hosting a talk by local historians John and Bronwen Souders at the Waterford Old School. This richly illustrated presentation pulls back the veil on the mysterious mansion at Waterford's Oakland Farm, a secluded estate better known to generations of intrigued local children as Browns' Castle.
In a saga spanning 250 years, a succession of remarkable, willful women rise from illiterate beginnings to unimagined heights of wealth and influence-only to discover that life at the top can be precarious.
The event features portraits, gowns, photographs and other objects documenting a little-known chapter in Waterford's long history. Free of charge, open to the public, donations accepted for the support of our Local History collection.

Thank you to Tom Edmonds, Sky Richardson and their assistant, Beth Cleveland for their efforts in hosting the Southern Comfort dinner on May 2nd. This event was generously donated as an auction item to the Sweetheart Ball this past February. Thank you for your hard work and generosity!
