VOLUME 3 ISSUE 23/ APRIL 15, 2016
A great day to celebrate success!

It was a beautiful, albeit windy, morning Friday when Special Olympians from all over Carroll County competed at Grisham Stadium in the annual Carroll County Special Olympics. Carrollton Junior High School was well represented and competed admirably in a variety of events. Here is a picture of CJHS Olympians proudly displaying their banner as they prepare for the opening ceremonies.
Relay for Life
basketball tourney
to be held April 22

Think you know the best basketball players? Well ask them to join your team for the annual Relay for Life 3v3 basketball tournament to be held on Friday, April 22, during connections classes.

If you want to sign up a team just follow these rules - get $5 together and very neatly write your team name and each player's first and last name on a slip of paper. Take to the following teachers:

7th - Mr. Lawrence
8th - Mrs. Stallings

No teams will be signed up without paying the entry fee. The deadline to turn in your team and money will be Wednesday, April 20.

If you would rather cheer on your friends, bring $2 to your first connections teacher. There will be a half court shootout during each connections for only $1. Those lucky winners will get $5 if they make it!

Softball tryouts
to be held May 2-3

CJHS softball tryouts will be held May 2-3 from 4-5:45 at the high school field. All girls trying out need to be academically eligible, have a current physical and an athletic release form that includes current health insurance information. The form is available on the athletic website.

Milestones testing
begins next week

Next week students at CJHS will begin two weeks of Milestones, the state standardized testing tool used to gauge student performance.

Testing is scheduled Tuesday through Thursday, April 19-21, and Tuesday and Wednesday, April 26-27. Tests will be held in the mornings beginning at 8:00 and completing at 11:35 for seventh graders and 12:10 for eighth graders.

Dr. Todd Simpson, principal, informed the CJHS School Governance Team this week that teachers and his administrative staff feel confident students will perform much better than the tests' first administration last spring.

"Students have performed better on the benchmark assessments this year as compared to last year," he said. "We anticipate this improvement to transfer to the actual test."

In order to help students and parents prepare for this important testing period, a bevy of online resources has been pulled together as a resource. This flyer provides direct links to practice tests and other useful information.

In addition to using these resources to build students' testing capacity, Dr. Todd Simpson urges parents to be sure their children are getting plenty of sleep each night during the testing window and that they eat a healthy breakfast each morning, noting that school breakfast is a convenient and highly affordable option for busy households.
Remember: No checks
accepted for payments

Carrollton Junior High School is no longer accepting checks for the remainder of the school year.

As a convenience, non-resident fees and media fines may be paid online through RevTrak.

Lunch payments can be taken care of through EZ-Pay. Contact the cafeteria for any questions regarding lunch accounts.
